The "cartoon" could use some comments too.

Held hostage

EDITOR: Why must we continue to be held hostage to the paranoid fears of some gun owners? Assault rifles and high-capacity clips would do no good against an actual malign government takeover or a foreign invasion, but they make for efficient killing in a theater or classroom. I am tired of paying a yearly ransom of 30,000 lives. We need sensible, incremental control of guns, beginning by restricting military-style weapons to the military.

Put on the educated voice I'm sure you have and rip him a new one.

With a closed mind like that, how could anything of reason be absorbed.

Drill, tap, and install a zerk fitting?

Wasn't there a line in Avatar about not being able to teach a mind that is already full? This unfortunate is secure in his insanity.

Umm, am I missing something here? :blink:/>:blink:/>

Here's mine:

Indeed why should we be held hostage? I couldn't agree more. Why should innocent, law abiding citizens be forced to endure the malign intent of an invasive press and media? The framers of the 1st Amendment surely didn't foresee the proliferation of porn; the advancement of the internet; cyber-virtual publishing; daily media bombardment with characterizations such as your cartoon that depicts a gun-owner as someone with limited intelligence. I am tired of paying a ransom of 300,000,000 gun owners who killed no one. I for one, think that it would be reasonable to restict all publishers at the point of a gun to scratching out their leftist drivel on a parchment by candlelight and goose quill and then sending it by messenger on horseback. When I receive my reading by lantern light: I'll get back to you.

Way to go BK!! :FlagAm:

Of course you know you're preaching to an empty pew. That kind has no room for truth or facts. Their delusional concept of the world has no room for logic or reason.

Exactly.... that's why I think it is important for us to attack whichever Amendment they think they can preserve for themselves. In this case it is the 1st..... in others it may be the 13th or 4th or....it stops their thinking dead in its bed.

I don't expect to reach those who express the sentiments of Brian. I'm after those who read the letter, and read the responses and can see a clear and unemotional refutation of the ideas the Brians express in their letters.

Americans aren’t stupid. They see the characterizations equating gun owners with mental cretins and then quietly turn to their spouse and say, “Honey, it’s time we learned to shoot.” We vote with our feet and our wallets and avoid confrontation while preparing for it. This is not the first time that good, honest, law-abiding citizens have had to choose between subject and citizen. Not the first time people with backbone and resolve have been forced to consider how they may be forced to oppose a tyrannical govenment. The 2nd Amendment isn’t about “need” anymore than the 1st Amendment is about ‘porn’ or the ‘internet’, but it protects both need and right in America as America must now protect the need of people in Egypt, Syria, Iraq and Libya as they fight to the death to reclaim their inalienable rights. And we learned from those places: There are 545 of them and 300m of us and they know it.Aim well my firends.

Held hostage

EDITOR: .... Assault rifles and high-capacity clips would do no good against an actual malign government....

Really? That's laughable....

Unverified quote by Isoroku Yamamoto, Commander-in-Chief of the Imperial Japanese Navy during World War II. Of course it was originally stated in Japanese, this is the English translation....

"You cannot invade the mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass."

Sometimes... the invaders are within. To correctly uphold the Constitution of the U.S.A..... "Foreign and Domestic." And therefore... the reason for the 2nd Amendment.
