Cherokee Gambler, SASS # 33915 Posted November 17, 2012 Posted November 17, 2012 I shot the first two matches of the year in April and then I got shingles. Didn't shot again untill our three day match the end of August. Shot another match after that and decided to quit for the year. Before the end of the year, I just decided to quit shooting CAS altogether. A lot of the fun was shooting with the family. My brother in law got arthritis so bad he and my sister quit 5 or so years ago. Then my granddaughter got into trouble and I wouldn't let her shoot. My wife hasn't shot for two years and my grandson is going to college next year so he won't be shooting either. I have a lot of great friends in SASS and CAS and I would miss them. At any rate I made up my mind to quit. The month of November has been taken up sighting in deer rifles and shooting with my son and my other grandson. My grandson is only 6 and none of the rifles I have fit him so he can't shoot to well with them. On one occasion I decided to bring one of my CAS revolvers and let him shoot some of my fart loads in it. He had a blast and so did I. He hit an 18" target more than he missed. When we got done we took the boy home and were talking with my daughter in law. She reminded me that I promised to teach Will to shoot and would take him to matches. Well, a promise is a promise and he and I will be shooting until he is out of high school. I guess the folks in eastern Nebraska are stuck with me for a while longer. Nothing is better than shooting with family. Might even get my wife going again. Regards, Cherokee Gambler
Tuco Forsyth #72674 Posted November 17, 2012 Posted November 17, 2012 Indeed! A year or so back my wife told me to choose SASS or her. I told her that I'll sure miss her cooking and cheese cakes. She decided to stay and I've been shooting with a smile ever since.

twelve mile REB Posted November 17, 2012 Posted November 17, 2012 Quiting any serious thing is an important thing glad your thing is not quiting the thing seriously. The granddaughter might respond to the friendly acceptance we all find at CAS matches. Glad your back. 12

Snakebite Posted November 17, 2012 Posted November 17, 2012 "Nothing is better than shooting with family" Don't overlook your SASS family... sometimes things don't always work out so that we can have our Blood Kin as shooting pards, but if you allow it to happen, your local club can become a very large family. Trailboss (Santa) Dave Posted November 18, 2012 Posted November 18, 2012 Cherokee, I also had shingles about that same time. I tried to shoot 3 1 day events late in the season and Only managed to complete 2 this year. Tuco, the wife and I had been married about 15 years when she said you break another bone in your body I'm leaving. I broke 6 ribs and was almost a year learning to walk on my right leg. We have now been married 46 years. I went to all that trouble and she lied.
Mustang Gregg Posted November 18, 2012 Posted November 18, 2012 :FlagAm: :FlagAm: Bill: Yes, some things really can mess with our shooting and socializing. We're very glad you will be back. It wouldn't be the same without you out there. You were the first one to get me fired up about SASS at ENGC back in 2001. And it was been a load of fun. Sorry I haven't been there much. I was in Afghanistan in early-2011 to mid-2012 and then back injuries and now a hand injury. But I plan on shooting with you as soon as I get healed up and off active duty!!! Mustang Gregg
Cherokee Gambler, SASS # 33915 Posted November 18, 2012 Author Posted November 18, 2012 Like I said I sure would have missed the CAS family. I don't say SASS because I belong to an independant club as well as a SASS club. Matter of fact, I was one of the two that started the SASS club. I have friends that are NCOWS too. All shooters seem to be good folks. My grandson is going to be fun to teach. He is not anywhere near being mature enought to shoot with a group yet but then he is way younger than the other grandson I taught. My granddaughter will never handle one of my firearms again even if she gets her act together. Not to say she and I can't do something that doesn't involve firearms together. I guess this post was just to let the folks I've been shooting with know I will see them next year. Good shooting to all of your and i'm letting you know I intend to cheat next year. I am going to practice. Wrangler-I'm looking forward to shooting with you next year. What say we shoot the same posse at Logan. Mustang, hope to shoot with you too. Regards, Cherokee Gambler.

Captain Bill Burt Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 Tuco is 'The Man'! I got lucky, my wife resisted initially, but now she's joined the party (outfitting her wasn't cheap though). The middle son is in and will probably be joined by the second daughter and third son in short order. We'll have almost enough to form our own posse, me, Shootin Sharyn, the Iron Cowboy, Emmie Oakley, and Tail End Charlie! Do they make ten gun guncarts?
Tuco Forsyth #72674 Posted November 20, 2012 Posted November 20, 2012 I am interested in these cheese cakes you speak of. They're pretty good, but not SASS good.
