Tired of high priced razors

Recommended Posts

While grocery shopping the other day I noticed razor blades for the tried and true Gillette Mach 3 were over $17.00 for a 5 pack! I was too cheap to spend that kind of dough on razor blades. I have tried cheap blades with no satisfaction. I hate to say it is not the money, cause it sounds so silly, but I can't believe there isn't a better alternative.

I went online and found this.

for $6.00 a month they will ship me razor blades.

Has anyone else tried them or heard about them? They got written up by Forbes, so they seem legit. This is not really CAS related, but in all fairness, If I can save 120 a year or more, then I can justify shooting more.

They do wonderful things with 'lectricty these days.

I've been using the 6.00/month dollar shave club razors for several months. they are fine. It took DSC about 6 weeks to send out my first order, but after that I get them in regularly. Razors are high quality, I really see no diffrence between them and the Gillette Fusion that I had been using. Way cheaper, and.....you dont have to find a clerk at wallyworlds to open the display case so you can get them!

DSC also has a more expensive "executive model" for I think 9.00/month, but I see no reason to switch.

I can reccomend them without reservation.

Iffn you plug in my email when you order jrooney@brownwatermarine.com I'll get a free month!

Bought ONE RAZOR 45 years ago...still got it.

I had enough of those "Young Gun" razors tool; way to much money. I finally found a site online, Em's, that sells safety razors. I got a years supply for $25. Went back to a safety razor that I can adjust the cut and will never go back. Wife likes when I shave real close with it. I just dial the number and it works super. I think the sample pack had 60 blades in it? Been a while though....

I would have to agree.

Heck, I can get a shave so close with a straight razor that the skin jumps right off and lands in the floor!

Talk about close shave! Close to the bone!!

Naw......I ain't nicked myself in quite a while. ;)

Fer $6 a month ya can buy 60 razors at the dollar store. way more then needed. Ya want a cheap razor to last?

Then stick it in some kind of oil after each shave. Even a cheap Bic razor lasts an increadable amount of shaves doing that. Just take a glass, add enough oil to cover the blade end and store till next shave.

You'll be amazed.

It's what you have to use on your face before going job hunting.

I showed my wife your photo, at first glance she wondered why she had never seen that photo of me. Then she realized it wasn't me. 'course, since I had been doing job hunting, I don't have all that nice growth anymore.

Is there any outfit that makes decent straight razors that don't break the bank?

Straight or safety razor is way to go. Lot of folks (wife, ladies, even some men) comment of how noticeablty smooth my face looks/feels after a straight razor shave. And the answer is no, no men feel my face.

I am new to the straight razor......

I think all you can do is buy vintage. I am looking to upgrade myself. Plenty on EBAY and there are folks that restore old blades.

Of all the vintage razors I have looked into, Genco's have a reputation for good quality and are fairly priced.

I use a double edge razor. Each blade is just a few cents each.

Me too, old "safety razor", blades about $.10 each.

Yep! Finally went back to wet shaving about a year ago. Got a Marvy green rubber shaving mug, a decent badger bristle brush, and a half dozen packs of Williams shaving soap, three of Col. Conk's (don't bother), and one of Van Der Hagen (best of the breed) to go with my double edged razor and 30 packs of Wilkinson Sword blades. I figure I'll have to buy soap every year or so and blades about every two, and I'll be good damn near forever.

Don't need it for shaving, but I picked up three brands of bay rum aftershave: Dominica, Clubman Virgin Island, and Lucky Tiger. Got one of Ogallala coming, too.

So far I'm out of pocket about 80 bucks (not counting the bay rum and the razor itself) and most of it is not going to have to be replaced anytime soon.

I don't have many personal luxuries any more, but a good wet shave is well worth the bother and fuss.

I used to work with a guy who would come to work at 8:00 clean shaven and by noon he had a pretty good beard. We called him the human hair machine. Anyway the boss who hated beards would finally come in to the shop about noon and yell at the guy for not shaving. Well all of the guys in the shop got together and quit shaving and that just about drove the boss over the edge. He threatened to fire us all if we didn't start shaving. One guy out of five started shaving again. Nobody got fired.

Hi J. Mark.

I have another solution. Buy once and it will last for years. It is the closest "shave" you can get. It rivals wax without the mess. The question is are you "man enough" ;) for one of these.

PS Guess you're already committed. I just saw your last post. Maybe this will help someone else.

 Hey, I saw a thing like that for getting rid of nose hair! -_-

I think I'd rather shave Miss Mo.

:o/> :blush:/>

I think you should have used a comma after "shave."

sounds painful

They aren't too bad. I even use one on my armpits. :blush:/> See how my SASS Wire "skin thickening exercises" have helped me.

Now, that sounds painful. However, one day at my hairdressers, there was a man next to me getting his ears and nose waxed. :wacko:/>
