Doc Cherokee, SASS#48332
That..Was..AWESOME!!!! I didn't know General Babbit was the original drummer, how cool is that!? He's still got his chops, too! I play "Walk Don't Run" rather often on my Strat..I've always loved that tune..Fun to play, one of those songs where ya can kick on a drum machine, turn up the reverb on the Fender Twins, and just go for it.. Utah Bob #35998
I used to have every Ventures album. Fantastic! My garage band in high school played a bunch of their hits. Not well of course...but we tried. And the chicks liked it.

Utah Bob #35998
Actually, Babbitt dropped out of the band before they hit it big with Walk Don't Run. I can't see the vid on this tablet. Have to wait till I get to the real computer.
J-BAR #18287
Thanks so much for this...the Ventures were one of my all time favorites. Their version of the old Everly Brothers hit, "Gone Gone Gone" was my best dance tune! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DMmMHeMWBkM

Yellowhouse Sam # 25171
Ghost riders probably influence more prospective guitar pickers than any other song with perhaps the exception of Wildwood Flower. I had and still have all their albums and just about ran a needle through all of them. It was kinda neat having big name bands and not a vocal anywhere. If you show your age then you'll remember SleepWalk by the StringAlongs.
Professor Tull, SASS #66742
If you show your age then you'll remember SleepWalk by the StringAlongs. I do not remember a String Along version of 'Sleepwalk' on the radio in Tulsa, but in 59 there was a version by Santo & Johnny. No matter who did it - Great Song. Thanks Pulp for the R & R history lesson. Tull

Man if you couldn't play that song there was no hope! BTW, aside from Walk don't Run my favorite Ventures tune is Perfidia! More trivia. What guitar did the Ventures switch to later in their career? Birdgun Quail, SASS #63663
Ah the Ventures. Wore the needle out playing The Ventures. "Wipe Out" and "Pipeline" are still favorites for old surfers.

Tull Yep!. The Ventures didn't win a lot of friend on this one...kind of a loyalty type thing I guess. No one I knew was particularly impressed by Mossrite guitars either.
