BONEYARD BILL, SASS #39,030 Posted October 9, 2012 Share Posted October 9, 2012 Hello everyone. I had prostate cancer - and it was surgically removed (Robotic Laproscopic Prostatectomy)in 2007. But - the surgeon missed a little bit of tissue - and - it caused my PSA to elevate and - then - in 2011 - I had 35 rounds of radiation (phototon). I am now cancer free Since the radiation - I have tried Cialis - 20 mg - with only moderate success (like 70% - 80% erection). I see that there are several "VED" - Vacuum Erection Devices - out there (let's call them "pumps". Has anyone tried these pumps - with what level of success - etc. I am 65 and covered by Medicare - it looks like Medicare covers this type of device. Thanks so much. Badlands Beady Posted October 9, 2012 Share Posted October 9, 2012 Even if the pumps do work, there's no telling how long the effect may last. As with all the other possible solutions out there, YMMV. Near as I can tell, the only solution with guaranteed success is an implant, where you literally inflate yourself with a rubber-ball-type hand pump; it's the one solution I absolutely refused to try. Sildenafil, vardenafil, and tadalafil appear to be equally effective, but tadalafil has a longer duration of action. Phosphodiesterase inhibitors are contraindicated in men taking nitrates. In men with prostate cancer who have undergone prostatectomy or radiation therapy, these drugs are only effective in approximately 50 percent of patients at best. For second-line therapy, consideration of penile self-injectable drugs , intraurethral alprostadil , and vacuum devices are recommended. Satisfaction with vacuum-assisted erections has varied between 25 and 49 percent. Surgical implantation of a penile prosthesis should be reserved for men who cannot use or who have not responded to first- and second-line therapies. For men with sexual dysfunction and low serum testosterone levels, ie, hypogonadism, testosterone replacement therapy should be the initial treatment. Psychotherapy alone or in combination with psychoactive drugs may be helpful in men whose erectile dysfunction is caused by depression or anxiety. In addition, alpha adrenergic blocking agents such as yohimbine hydrochloride have enjoyed some popularity as a remedy for men with psychogenic erectile dysfunction. In obese men with erectile dysfunction, weight loss and increased physical activity are associated with an improvement in erectile function in about one third of patients. That's all folks. I have an appointment with my Urologist on Thursday - but - I am not sure I trust him 100% of the time. So - - I was looking for "second opinions" and - I knew my pards on the wire would come thru. Bama Red Posted October 10, 2012 Share Posted October 10, 2012 I knew a guy at work who had gone for sever years with severe ED and had been run thru various protocols by his doc. They finally decided he was a candidate for the implant pump and after surgery, he was like a kid at Christmas. When the docs finally allowed him to open his present , he was as tickled as he could be. He said the implant worked better than the factory original in every way . He was one happy camper! Fast Tracker Posted October 10, 2012 Share Posted October 10, 2012 I had a cancer related Prostatectomy nine years ago. It was called the nerve sparing method. It didn't. Methods have improved greatly since then. I tried viagra, cialis, and the pump. None worked for me. The do it yourself injection works, for me. You do have to get over the aversion to where you have to inject yourself, but it is a very small diameter, very short needle. I have not tried these but, there is also a liquid. Drops are placed inside of the ureter. It is supposeed work as well as the injection. The last time I checked, the price was $40 per use. Still cancer free. Smoken D Posted October 10, 2012 Share Posted October 10, 2012 Not my expirence, but very close friend had prostate cancer along with surgery. Result ended up with diapers for a few years and ED. After all else failed put in the valve thing so that he could control the urine problem. They also ended up putting the pump in. Both worked for him. The prices are about75% lower than buying drugs made in the US, but I am told the pills coming from Canada are actually manufactured in India...concerns about quality control. Anyone know for sure? Blue Steel Duke Posted October 12, 2012 Share Posted October 12, 2012 This is probably best evaluated by Okie, but the OTC supplement Argenine (used by body builders) has worked well for me. It causes dilatation of the blood vessels and increases blood flow to the body without the flushing and headaches as a side effect. It's not a quick fix or miracle drug by itself, but it increases the effectiveness of Viagra and Cialis type drugs.
