High Powered Rifle

Texas Phil Peeno #50923

Savage called their proprietary new cartridge in the then-new Model 1899 the .22 Hi-Power in 1912.

The DCM matches that I have shot in my area are called 'hi-power' rifle matches. I saw everything from .222 and up used.

My interpretation is simply that a rifle is a high-power one is chambered in a centerfire round intended for rifles, not handguns.

What is the definition of a high powered rifle? Is it based on the caliber or the velocity or magazine capacity?

By CA definition, an assault weapon is a rifle with one or more capacity.

according to the media and the brady bunch, a high powered rifle is any rifle that shoots anything more powerful that .22cal gallery loads, which would be those little itty bitty things driven simply by primer.
