WTB - Base Pin Retaining Pin Assembly for ROA

Howdy:

Anyone selling a ROA for parts? I need the Base Pin retaining pin Assembly. This is the pin with a screw head on the frame which hold the base pin and ram. The part got separated and Ruger does not seem to have parts, nor Brownells, nor Numrich.

I Googled your request and like you said, Midway says discontinued my manufactor. Farther down the pile I found this web site. Type it in and give it a look see. It's the "assembly" consisting of three parts and looks like what you need for ONLY $10 (they said sorry NO LONGER available in brass!) Hope it helps.

Does NOT say it fits Ruger but maybe it can me machined to fit. Do you have ANY of the assemby at all?

I have the main screw (I.E, the portion on the right side with the screw head). The left side of the assembly (I guess the cap, spring and detent has gone to Dixie). As log as I leave the item in Locked mode I can still fire the gun, but it could work loose. I have asked Ruger for the screw in port thread size and length - maybe I can fabricate a piece. Thanks for taking time to look - I have searched just about all sites to no avail.

The Heritage parts are for that manufacturers .22s. They are not for a ROA. If you load your cylinders outside the gun you don't need the retainer. I've shot mine for ten years and have never turned the base pin screw to the latched position.

I'm like Larsen -- have not ever locked mine.

I load with a cylinder loader & don't even put the ram on cause it keeps falling off when I put the cylinder in.

I've never had the loading lever drop down during shooting.

Here's how I shoot my ROAs:

Note that there is no ram.

You can't see it, but the screw locking the loading lever is never turned to "lock"

You are quite correct, I can just pop the cylinder out and load it on my wonderful Tower of Power :-), The problem, as I see it, is the ball and detent that is in the retaining pin (It really helps if I inspect the darn thing) is gone. Probably popped out sometime back and was lost. The pin turns freely and like I said, can fire with no describable problem. The pin is loose (no pressure from the detent) so I am concerned that perhaps in the course of firing the pin would turn (probably not - but Murphy's law comes into play) and something my go astray causing harm. I suppose that the tension of the loading lever would keep the base pin in place even if the retaining pin fell out and the pin would have to turn 90 degrees in order to fall out, again Murphy's law coming into play). I must say the individual who owned this pistol previously fired it many years in this condition and suffered no ill effects, so maybe I worry for naught. Thanks for your comments, they are encouraging. Any ideas on how to simulate the detent in the retaining pin?

I'm glad you guys found him one. I find it hard to believe that Ruger doesn't make them as spare parts any more. From looking at all my Rugers (except the 22s) the pin is the same on ALL of the large frame Rugers. You can't be the only Ruger owner to take that pin apart and loose part of it! Super bunch of guys!

Oh yes, PD how long is that Old Army? The barrel looks longer that my 7 1/2 inch ones!
