I did two Uberti's with naval jelly. Worked well.

Sand and "nick" the grips.

I can never get any jelly out of my navel, only lint

I used Longshot's method on my Vaqueros .45's and they look exactly like the results pictured on his link. I just about had a heart attack though when I pulled them out the oven and applied the plumb brown. I mumbled "what have I done" over and over. But after I hosed them with WD-40 and worked them with steel wool they suddenly looked cool (opinions may vary).

The Hombres have a bead blasted finish after stripping so you might have to sandpaper

a little to get the finish you want. I did some per Longshots directions, vinegar,

plum browning here's what they look like ....they are about a year old in the pic.......

Antiqued Remmies

Dakota and Doc

Dakota

This Dakota started life as a "in the white" kit gun from EMF in the late 70's. I didn't have the money for a good blue job, so decided to cold blue it and try to antique it. it had brass tg/bs until about 7-yrs ago when I got a ASM tg/bs from EMF close out . it wasn't supposed to fit, but it did. The second pix shows it next to a pix of Doc Holidays gun. other than the shorter bbl and the fact it is the 2nd gen basepin, they look very similar, even to the wear on the bbl and the cylinder.

the other guns were the factory "antiqued" 1875 Remingtons. Those I won in a drawing along with the Jesse holsters. Just showing them for demo purposes.

I like my old Dakota...I think it looks cool...

good luck and we need pix..maybe as you go along in the project.
