Add this to the millions of rounds of ammo just purchased ... who are they planning on using all this firepower on?

May be they have a buy back scam for the F&F guns.

Perhaps DHS will evolve into a proper border security force..........

Sorry, I must have dreaming, or on another planet.

Isn't there a dhs oversight committee ?

BMC are you suggesting that DHS is now going to be the gun supplier to the cartels???:angry::lol:

Why not...it'll take the heat of the BATF

7000 rifles.....? Well, I hope more and more non-gov't affiliated citizens arm themselves.

In addition to the four hundred million rounds of .40 cal ammo, these rifles just mentioned, what about the ordering of 2717 MRAP vehicles? Why does DHS need 2717 mine resistant armoured vehicles? Do we have IEDs or anti-vehicular land mines here in the continental United States?

Makes you wonder, doesn't it......

George W. Bush, in the wake of 9/11.

An attempt to streamline, coordinate, and facilitate the flow of intelligence for critical and timely actions. I fear, depending upon who is in power, we may have created our first "political" national police force.

Yep. A result of that emotion propelled USA PATRIOT Act.

Why worry about the borders any longer? We can save millions of dollars by doing away with the Border Patrol as the President just gave 800,000 illegals the safety of his word.

How can one man grant amnesty to all those people who are not US Citizens. I thought we had laws that had Courts and Judges and Congress to do these things.

He has now made himself the KING OF THE US AND NO LONGER NEEDS TO WORK WITH IN THE BOUNDRIES OF THE US CONSITUTION!!

Someone on another forum pointed out that with this purchase the feds have redefined things a bit - "assault weapons" are now "Personal Defense Weapons."

Ah! Good catch! And especially hypocritical, since these are ACTUAL assault weapons, as in selective fire!

There seem to be a bucketload of reports about this... but all I've found seem to be on discussion forums.

The most "solid" article I've found that mentions an order for 2,717 MRAP vehicles seems to indiate the order is for retrofit services for eithr ARMY or MARINE CORPS vehicles... no mention of Homeland Security.

Anyone else know of anything more substantial than forum discussions or "The Democratic Underground?"

With the end of the fiscal year coing up, I suspect it's a case of "Boss, we have X million dollars left in the budget. What do we do with it?" "Can't let it go back to the %*&^ #$^% treasury, they would only waste it. Look around and find something we can buy." "Hey, those rifles look cool. Let's buy 7000 of 'em." "Do we need them?" "No, but we have the money."

Saw two of them painted black on a flatbed trailer being hauled down I-25 near Raton, NM in early May. However,

there are plenty of images folks have been taking of these MRAPS:

So again, why do we need mine resistant armored vehicles for domestic use, and not in some war zone?

And testing each one with 4000 rds of ammo, damm they are almost worn out before the are issued, hummmmmm well come Nov-------------Furthermore, they state that every firearm will be tested with a whopping 4,000 rounds, meaning that 28,000,ooo rounds will be spent just testing the firearms before they are put into service.

If the guns pass that test, three samples will be tested with an additional 3,500 rounds per firearm while the guns will also be tested for resilience in high temperature, low temperature, salt water immersion, sand and dust and drop conditions.

It's called the border, it's already a war zone. When the Zetas start using heavy artillery in Juarez armored vehicles will be the only way to commute to work. Shades of 1910 all over again.

I would assume that the new para-military organization called DHS would be used against recalcitrant U.S. citizens defying the newly "transformed" America rather than against drug cartels. What we need is a more potent Immigration and Customs Enforcement (I.C.E.) working with heavily armed local County Sheriffs if the violence on the border gets too bad. Not many land mines seen in El Paso,Texas, Columbus, New Mexico or Douglas, Arizona.

If congress ever gets around to passing a budget we'll be able to see who gets the land mine contract. From what you're saying it looks like the vehicles are going to be used for check points and roadblocks to control refugee taxpayers trying to escape south? Makes one wonder whose homeland they're trying to secure.
