Adirondack Jack, SASS #53440
"On this day when we honor our mothers, let us not forget about the ones who, in spite of the fact that they were not OUR mothers, have still opened their arms and hearts to us as if they were. Step-parenthood is challenging for many reasons... as someone who's been both a step-child AND a step"-parent, I know this well... so lets not forget to give a special nod to those that voluntarily took that responsibility on and made themselves moms :-) " My oldest son Brad, now 27, raised by me since age three, with the help and support of his step mother, my wife, since age 6, wrote the above this morning. He is a bright man, fully aware that saying he was "a handful" severely understates the experience of raising him. And yet, my wife Peg rose to the challenge, even when, in the early days, the business of being a mom was new and scary to her. To all those "voluntary moms" out there, A heartfelt "Happy Mothers Day". AJ
