A great musician in a league all his own. What a great sound!

I believe this was the first recording made by Ronnie Hawkins and The Hawks with their new drummer, Levon Helm. Late 1958 and Levon had just quit his band the Bush Beaters in Helena, Arkansas, and joined Ronnie Hawkins and the Hawks - who later became The Band.

This song was a big hit for the Shields, but was penned by Levon.

Here is to you Levon, a friend and the heart and soul of a lot of great music.
Thank you for saving our instruments from the Casa Del fire.

Had some reel to reel tapes of him and had them put on c.d.'s.

He will sorely be missed.

What a tough week for our (old farts here) musical heritage. GodSpeed Levon, you were one of the greats.

They certainly don't make modern entertainers in this mold anymore - must be true they broke the mold.

I am afraid to think who the third may be (next)......
