Custom sixgun case

Down to two final questions on making a walnut case for a pair of 5 1/2" SAA sixguns. (I've only been on this project for six years so I'm moving faster than I usually do on these things.)

1. What would you use for the internal padding and basic form? I have a sheet of 2" thick foam that's a half inch too thick and may be too soft in the long run. Is there a better choice for a form-fitted "French-style" interior?

2. What kind of fabric is suitable for the interior? I don't want something that will mar the finish on the guns or draw moisture, etc. I'm looking for Army Ordnance Corps scarlet.

I already have Russ N' Hound waiting to do the laser and inlay work on the lid, and am hoping that Foxy can do the interior of the lid in her marvelous embroidery. Of course after all this time they may have given up on me.

I used foam on this little one and an old umbrella handle from the 1800s :) Had no idea what i was doin, the biggest problem i had was cuttin the foam, next time i may use my wood burning kit and melt the shape out.I used a razoe knife the last time, but it dulled fast and still pulled the foam.I put a wood dowel in the handle then drilled it and screwed the jig into it to hold the 22 brush and cotton cleaning rod..

Right below the derry, little brass knob,it had a little abalone shell rod sticking in it but was all cracked so i removed it,then was connected to a longer rod with umbrella at the top,the knob was filled with a plaster like substance and i drilled it out, basicly turned to powder and came out.

And yes if you want to you can fill that gun pipe with powder and smoke it,you'll get a bang out of it...:lol::blink:
