Ohio National Guardsmen Killed

As some of you know, my brigade is currently deployed in Afghanistan. I'm not there because I am expecting to retire this month.

I had known SFC Hannon for over fifteen years, when I was coming into 11th Special Forces for my brief stay and where he was a Rigger. I was in law school and he was getting ready to start so we had a lot to talk about. We bumped into each other again in the field artillery where he was serving as a FIST NCO. He later was shifted to the unit he was in when he deployed. Like me, he was a lawyer who chose to remain enlisted. I hadn't talked to him in several years, but know he was a good guy, in cowboy terms, one to ride the river with.

I didn't know the other two, but I am confident that they were good soldiers and good people performing their mission to the best of their abilities.

I will be keeping their families in my thoughts and meditations, and I kind of thought that some many people on here would want to offer up their prayers.

An Irish Prayer for our fallen and your friends

"May the road rise up to meet you

May the wind be always at your back

May the rain fall soft upon your fields

May the sun shine warm upon your face

And, until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of his hand"

To the family's of those involved... I offer deepest condolences...

Dustballs... have an Irish ridin' friend that quoted that recently.

For the first time... in long time... it brought a profound... and seriously unexpected sadness to my heart to hear it again. Sometimes, those feelings are not fleetin'... as I often feel 'em. This is the case.

Don't know whether to thank you Dusty... or hunt you down, for makin' me re-live the sad circumstance.

(Joshin' withya Irishman... you and I have deep-skin in this game of life.)
