The symptoms are easily recognized; men change their names, dress up as cowboys and gather in large groups for make-believe shootouts. Women dress up as saloon gals, strap on six shooters and blaze away too. It’s called Cowboy Action Shooting disease and it’s spreading rapidly. People who live in the country seem to be unaffected by this highly contagious disease. A recent study by the Center for Disease Control found that frequent exposure to cowboy hats and cowboy boots and horse poop can somehow provide immunity. Scientists are working on a vaccine but have little hope for success; even sheep dip has proved ineffective. Affected individuals get uncontrollable urges to buy expensive antique revolvers, double barrel shotguns and lever action rifles. Some initially settle for replicas but soon crave the real thing. Wearing leather holsters and hats and boots and vests and sheriffs badges can provide some relief. Eventully the disease will progress to Stage II, Mounted Cowboy Action Shooting, a much more serious and expensive form of the disease. The only treatment at that point is to buy a horse. You soon discover that horses don’t like to be alone so you have to buy another horse…it’s all downhill from there. Once you get this disease there is no cure. Cows out number folks round here by a very large margin ,,,,,,, And the Big Town round here (3,700) has a hitch rail in front of da A&W .... And it gets used right regular !!!
