Where to shoot this coming weekend...South NM?

KC Colt, SASS #69404

Recommended Posts

I am seriously thinking about a road trip to watch my son play baseball this weekend in New Mexico and would like to do a twofer...and NEED do some cowboy shooting too.

So my son is a pitcher at SEMO is flying to New Mexico State U (Las Cruces) this weekend and is scheduled to start game 1 on Saturday (they play a double header). So Sunday is open and I can drive 4 or so hours to get a cowboy shoot in on Sunday. Where to go? Thinking about Tuscon to shoot with the Altar Valley Pistoleros. Do they shoot this coming weekend? Any other options??

Your pard,

KC

edit: Please note my total # of posts and membership date. NOT the first rodeo for ole KC.

Thanks, I've made a few long distance shooting trips to that area of the country (WR, Tombstone, Tuscon, Texas, CA, etc) and have always checked the affiliated clubs before and then I also send out an email or post before I load up my cart, ammo, "bang sticks", etc and then begin the journey. The club I mentioned above did NOT shoot last month and I need to know if then didn't because of WR or another reason so this is step 2 in my planning. And maybe there are other clubs that are closer...

Thanks,

KC

You could shoot in Elephant Butte, NM an hour and a half north of Cruces on Sunday. Forecast is for wind with blowing dust (Saturday will be worse). I'm not sure I'd bother since I hate cleaning grit out of guns. The weather forecast for Tucson is better.

Altar Valley stood down last month so that people could attend a two day warm up match for Winter Range in Tombstone. As far as I know they will be shooting March 18th staring at 9AM. You can contact

KC COLT: Sorry if I offended you but if you know all this why ask for info. Chief

MY SASS # is 41032

No offense taken and I hope you weren't either.

I looked at the list of Affiliated clubs and found 2 clubs in the general area of Los Cruces that shoot on the 3rd Sunday. One of the clubs is Elephant Butte and I tried shooting there last year during my trip to Winter Range and only 4 people showed up that day and it wasn't a good time. The other club is in Tuscon and I noted they didn't shoot last month and my question (wasn't stated well) was "Are they shooting this month?". I'll ping Mean Rayleen to confirm.

Thanks pards.
