Bottom Dealin Mike, SASS #22273 Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 I think Pietta is making good cap and ball revolvers these days. But their 1851 Navy grip drives me crazy. The shape is all wrong. I've talked to Alessandro Pietta about this several times, but things aren't going to change. So, I can show you how to improve that situation yourself. We can pretty easily re-contour the grips and back strap of a Pietta 1851 Navy rcap and ball revolver to eliminate the Pietta "Tail" and give the grips a more historically accurate appearance. All you need to do this are a few hand tools and patience.
Larsen E. Pettifogger, SASS #32933 Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 If you get the Pietta C&B's with steel backstraps and trigger guards they have the same profile as the GWII. I've ground and polished a lot of the brass ones. The last Pietta 61 Navies I got were all steel and had the SAA grips shape.
Bottom Dealin Mike, SASS #22273 Posted March 12, 2012 Author Posted March 12, 2012 Glad to hear that. I recommended that to Alessandro Pietta several times over the last five years, but he didn't seem interested when I told him...even when I had Debbie from E.M.f. with me.
Slowhand Bob, 24229 Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Mike, at first I was thinking a big negative on this BUT you have my attention now. I have said many times that I like the Pietta Navy frame more than the Uberti or Colt shape and without a doubt it is because of the narrower width at the top. Since this does not impact that area it just might improve on it further. This is a fix that I just might try.
