backshootin beauford mcgee
The last time I did this was around 2005, so I guess it is time to do it again. My interest was piqued at the SHOT Show when I was talking to one of the major importers, who told me that 5 1/2" was the most popular length they sold and .45 Colt was the most popular caliber. This is quite different than what I see at matches, but my eyeball experience is pretty parochial, so I thought I'd do this survey again. I'll be posting this on several CAs discussion boards, so please only answer once. I'll compile the answers on a spread sheet and provide results when responses wrap up. If you shoot a whole passel of different guns at Cas matches, please pick the predominant model. If you can't narrow it down I'm going to put your tally into a bucket labeled "Various" OK, here's the survey. What Guns do you predominantly shoot at CAS matches: I. Squint Eyed Jake
I'm about as new to SASS as one can get. Shucks, my badge is all shiny bright and when folks see that 94247 number they smile and nod their heads that SASS is reaching 100,000! Fortunately, when I attended my first match earlier this month, I was taken under the wing of Willy Whiskers who gave me the ole sage advice of 'stop, look and listen'. No, not for an oncoming Iron Horse but what other folks were packing. He explained the various categories to me; what was required for each and advice as to where to find all the gear. So a hearty tip of the ole Stetson to Willy. To answer the questions raised: I. What CAS category do you shoot in? I'm still trying to figure that out but pretty much ruled out wearing hooped skirts II. Revolvers: 1. Ruger Vaquero 2. Barrel length ~ 5 1/2 inch 3. Caliber ~.45 Colt III. Rifles: 1. Barrel length: 20 inch I still have one more Ruger Vaquero to go before I can start shooting but with luck and an IRS tax refund I should be ready by the time of the Cowford Regulators Stampede in April.
