Duffield, SASS #23454 Posted February 14, 2012 Share Posted February 14, 2012 In 1978, as the USS Enterprise was nearing Australia for a four day stop at Fremantle/Pearth, one of the crewmen was practicing with his bagpipes on the hangar deck. A seaman asked him what was the purpose of the three sticks that extended from the bag and rested on his shoulder. He replied: "If it were not for 'Those Three Sticks' as you call them, this instrument would sound no better than an ordinary piano."
