WOODFOX , sass#34179
Carbine or rifle ? If it's a carbine remove both barrel bands and the mag tube and slide it foreward from the receiver . Woodfox

Woodfox My mistake, I didn't mention it was a 24" RIFLE. I can't seem to figure out the mag tube stays in place. I took the screw out of the front band on the forestock, not sure if this is how or not.
WOODFOX , sass#34179
I have never taken a rifle apart I'm sure you will need to remove the pin that is in the barrel band it also goes through the part of the mag tube . Vti gunparts has a diagram of it that may help you . Woodfox

Hondo Tucker
When I took the forearm off my 73, it was VERY difficult to drive out the little pin on the barrel band that it near the front end. The cap on the end of the forearm was easy, but that little pin up front is in a slot in the mag tube and the bottom of the barrel. That is what keeps the tube in place so it won't turn or slide out. Like I said, took some guts to hit that pin hard enough to get it started.
Colorado Coffinmaker
First, two shots of Tequela and put it off till tomorrow, then: 1. Remove the magazine end cap, spring and follower. 2. Remove the cross pin in the magazine ferrule. Be sure to use a punch that fits, it takes SOME whack 3. Remove the two screws from the fore end protection. 4. Remove the magazine tube. You may need padded needle nose vice-grips. DO NOT twist the magazine tube back and fourth. The ferrule usually has burrs where the pin goes thru and you will have funny scratches all over the tube. While you have it apart, fix the burrs inside the magazine ferrule. 5. Remove the fore end protection 6. Remove the fore end wood. Re-assemble in reverse, remembering to align the notch in the mag tube woth the cross pin bore in the ferrule. Through all of this ....... Do not squeez the fore end wood!!!!!!
