I currenty shoot my Open Tops in 38 along with my 44/40 rifle and would like to shoot the same caliber if possible. Most of them were in 45 Colt but they did make 44/40 ones and some 38 Special also. I have some 44/40 conversions that I am building in the shop right now and am using 36 barrels that are going to be rebored to .429. Take a look at the Taylor's web page and the picture looks great of them. DC As far as I know all conversions of origninal Remingtons were to callibers that alowed the use of the existing bore. Todays gun manufacturers will produce anything that they believe some one will buy. '51 Colts in .44 caliber as an example. And no doubt there is some market for a Remington in .44-40 for those who have a lever gun in that caliber. My own Remingtons have conversions to .45 long Colt.
