Taxpayer money being used to promote gun control?

Recommended Posts

The antis have this utopian idea that the police will protect them. Conveniently ignoring ...

A 1993 nationwide survey of 4,977 households found that over the previous five years, at least 0.5% of households had members who had used a gun for defense during a situation in which they thought someone "almost certainly would have been killed" if they "had not used a gun for protection." Applied to the U.S. population, this amounts to 162,000 such incidents per year. This figure excludes all "military service, police work, or work as a security guard."

A 1994 survey conducted by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that Americans use guns to frighten away intruders who are breaking into their homes about 498,000 times per year.

Based on survey data from a 2000 study published in the Journal of Quantitative Criminology, U.S. civilians use guns to defend themselves and others from crime at least 989,883 times per year.

That's just armed citizens over a 7 year period. No LEOs involved.

What do criminals think ... ?

A 1982 survey of male felons in 11 state prisons dispersed across the U.S. found:

• 34% had been "scared off, shot at, wounded, or captured by an armed victim"

• 40% had decided not to commit a crime because they "knew or believed that the victim was carrying a gun"

• 69% personally knew other criminals who had been "scared off, shot at, wounded, or captured by an armed victim"

Add another incident to the list from Akron today....

Guy had an X-box for sale on Craig's List ... three thugs answer the ad and try to rob the guy at gunpoint.

He pulls out his .45 (a HiPoint - better than nothing) and nails one guy, sending them all running.

The wounded guy and one thug show up at a local hospital. Both have been arrested, third goon still on the lam.

==========================================================

On an unrelated note, I saw a great T-shirt today:

Save a Pitbull

Neuter a Thug

You expected different? He's from Chicago and follows the Chicago way of screwing people. Former Mayor Richard M. Daley couldn't get anti gun bills to pass the State Legislature so he decided to try a different tactic. He had the City of Chicago's Corporation Counsel file suit against every Gun Shop anywhere within a hundred miles of Chicago. It was nothing more than a Nuisance Suit and was designed to use taxpayer's money to force the Shop Owners to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to defend a legitimate business, thereby closing them sue to bankruptcy. Some made out of court settlements agreeing not to sell firearms to Chicago Residents.

Some went out of business, some didn't. The true loser was the taxpayer... Both the Gun Shop Owners and the little guys that had no clue as to what he was doing. he spent hundreds of millions of dollars bulling this through the courts until the cases were finally tossed out in the Appellate Courts.

I(f he were that dedicated to his cause, why didn't he use his own pocket money to defend his actions?

Because Chicago politicians are hypocrites.... he had a 35 man security detail provided by The Chicago Police Department, who even acted as chauffeurs for him and his family doing errands, shopping etc, not to mention driving 100 MPH plus to get to his summer home in Michigan every weekend. But the average guy was unable to legally possess a handgun in Chicago to protect himself or his family...

RANT OVER!!!

1. Gun control has NEVER been about crime or accidents. It IS about controlling the population, the PEOPLE!

2. The government does EVERYTHING with taxpayer money (THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS GOVERNMENT MONEY1), so this is nothing new. They've been using your tax money against you for many years in many ways.

Not so fast is right. Obama used a signing statement to negate that.
