Old Scatterbrain
There was a piece on Fox News about the bear hunting season and all the bunnyhuggers protesting it. "Bear hunting won't resolve nuisance complaints, bear hunting won't reduce property damage, bear hunting won't make people safer, and bear hunting won't reduce the population." ??Huh?? Texas Phil Peeno #50923
"bear hunting won't reduce the population" What is the problem then? If hunting will not thin the herd then what is the issue? The issue is that there is an overpopulation of bears and numerous bear and human confrontations. Blasted Cap
The bears are probably thinking they need to thin our population a little. And after reading that I would tend to agree.

Cypress Sun
Bare hunting isn't a good idea anyway. You'll get bug bites, sunburn and/or frostbite in all of the wrong places.
Marshal Mo Hare, SASS #45984
New Hampshire and, I assume, other sensible states plan the hunt to keep a certain size population. Here it is figured that there are 4500 to 5000 bears in the state and a harvest of around 10% (500) keeps the population about the same from year to year. I'd bet New Jersey has gotten themselves into a bind where they have to cull nearly half the population just to get it down to a reasonable number. Cutter Carl
There are 200+ bears in NJ that will tell her she was wrong about not reducing the bear population. "You can't fix stupid."
