Smokin Gator SASS #29736
I've got a Marlin Cowboy 45-70. I have rounded off the contact point on the lever (Marlin 94 models) that causes the indentation on the bottom of the carrier if the lever is left with the sharp edge. I noticed that the bottom of the carrier on the 45-70 is curved and it doesn't appear that the same problem should occur as far as the lever causing a groove in the bottom of the carrier as on the 94's. The lever contact point on the 95 is sharp, but it doesn't look like its affecting the bottom of the carrier. Do shooters round off the lever on 95's or is it not needed because of the different design between the 94 and 95? Of course I haven't shot the 45-70 nearly as much as my 44-40 and 44 mag Marlins. Shot it quite a bit this weekend with a couple of buddies. Smokin Gator
Doc Fill 'Em 67797
Since the 1895 is not a main match rifle, and you aren't trying to run it flat out, it doesn't seem to get the groove worn in like a '94 will. I don't think it could hurt to round the sharp edge a little though.
