Mack Hacker, #60477 Posted November 23, 2011 Posted November 23, 2011 I think his stock maker provided the one for Shorty in Monte Walsh. Maybe there is a Stumpy....Shorty connection. Maybe they were both named after their shotguns. Maybe..... never mind.

Seldom Seen #16162 Posted November 23, 2011 Posted November 23, 2011 The original script had Stumpy carrying the gun concealed under a duster. Yhe butt was shortened so the gun could be carried with the buttstock under his armpit on a sling. When the movie started filming a bright person questioned why a jailer would be wearing a duster inside the jail. So the coat went but they kept the shotgun. Then again maybe not. He could be he was nervous and chewed on the wood.
Yellowhouse Sam # 25171 Posted November 23, 2011 Posted November 23, 2011 Didn't know Stump was a cribber! Maybe he learned it from his horse.
