Shots fired at White House

ABC news reported this morning that it has been discovered that somebody took a few distance shots at the White House lately from a few hundred yards away with an 'assualt' type rifle.

Wouldn't it be strange to find out that the rifle used can be traced back to the Fast & Furious debacle?

OUCH!

It would be interesting if it was from F&F. And perhaps just (in a warped way) given the context of F&F and who appointed EH.

But would it ever get reported as from F&F?

Of course the president is in Australia right now.

This whole event was reported on CBS news noon here in CO.

How did they know it was an assault-type rifle?

I haven't tuned in to any news channels yet, but did they see it or just assume that it had to be an assault rifle?

And if it was an assault rifle, how did he get ahold of a fully automatic rifle?

They found a semi-automatic AK-47 in his car.

J Bar That's right text book definition of assault rifle is the capability of full auto fire, other wise it's just a semi auto rifle. Then the media rifles are all AK-47's and if handguns they are all Glocks, whether they are or not is only a slight matter of the truth. Adios Sgt.Jake

Nobody shoots at my dang White House. I don't care who the President is.

I hope they throw the jackass in with the other one from '01. I think he got 40 years.

I thought guns weren't allowed in D.C.?

He had to be closer than 100 yds, how many rounds to just hit the house much less hit a window with a AK much less break a window.

Guy must be

Apparently he either is illiterate or he simply didn't see the "Gun Free Zone" sign.

With U.B. on this one. Once elected that individual is, "The President of the United States". Shoot at the White House, throw a shoe, don't matter. Terminate that individual who assaulted the "United States of America"! :FlagAm:

Right...how can any self respecting legitimate law-abiding US citizen miss that

He may be President of the United States, but he sure acts like he is president of something else.

That still gives no one an excuse for shooting at him or our White House. If you feel different you are on the wrong forum.

Looks like he will get the book thrown at him big time! ;)

I hear they are now investigating whether the shooter is connected with the OWS crowd in DC. Apparently, he was seen hanging out in their little camp.

+1 UB, Well stated.

The President is THE President of the USA and the office alone deserves the respect. We may not agree with what he does, but he (or she when the time comes) was elected by a majority of the voters under our Constitution. :FlagAm:

I served to protect this just as you did, and all our Vets. When we lose this basic respect for the office and the duly elected officials of our Republic, we have lost a lot and will be on a very slippery slope.

Personally, I have concern for anyone who thinks differently on this at this time - but we also served to protect their right to have that opinion and state it.

All that having been said, I am a Tea Party supporter, and I'm doing everything I legally can do to ensure that the current individual occupying the White House will be replaced by ballot in 2012. Until then he is my POTUS, as much as that makes me gag.

Well, I certainly have no respect for our President as he is dragging our country through the dirt.....form TOTAL inadequacy or on purpose doesn’t really matter because the end results are the same and ALL Americans will end up paying for his election.

That said committing any act of destruction on the White House or any of its occupants should always be dealt with extreme consequences.

For those who have never stood on that street in front of the south side of the WH, it's a HUGE fortress that LOOKS much closer than it is due to sheer scale. Even the news reports are fluffed to obscure the actual range, but they claim 600-800 yards and I think that's about right. The "historic" windows on the outside are backed by a full set of casement windows of bullet-proof glass behind them (a few inches behind from the look of it) and there is NO way anything in the .30 cal variety is going inside. The WH is, as I said, a fortress. The Cessna that guy crashed into the building only made a stain.....

So a nutcase or "radical" (whichever?)takes a pot shot or two at the "Palace". And this is new how? EVERY republic has such irritants to bear. He'll likely get life for his troubles. Now if he shot a couple of rounds straight though your house or mine, (but hit nobody) he'd likely get 18 mos. Hardly seems right, givin the near impossibility of actually HURTING the WH or occupants at that range with a regular rifle. What he did was the functional equivalent of "egging" a house, (so long as nobody outside got hit, and they didn't) but it'll be treated as a capital crime.

I think this is a bunch of crap-"equivalent of egging a house". Shooting at the White House, President or other US officials is a Federal Offense. He gets a very long prison term or worse IMHO. Just finished reading O'Reilly's book on Shooting Lincoln. A lot of folks back then with very little to do with killing Lincoln were hanged, and they should have been.

...having 'little to do' with assassinating a president is having something to do with the act...whether little or not.

In this recent shooting, I thought I read that the guy they caught was being charged with attempted assassination of a federal official. Someone is taking this far beyond egg throwing and rightly so.
