Captain Long Story, US Cavalry Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 Oct. 28 (Bloomberg) -- Harrisburg, Pennsylvania’s capital, plans to auction off more than 8,000 relics ranging from 1900s- era rifles to wooden wagons that were meant to be part of a Wild West museum in the bankrupt city in the Northeast. Representatives of 10 auction houses examined the artifacts yesterday, Robert Philbin, a spokesman for Mayor Linda Thompson, said. He declined to name them, though he said 25 firms, including Christie’s Inc. and Sotheby’s, were invited to submit proposals. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-10-28/doc-holliday-s-dentist-chair-up-for-sale-in-bankrupt-harrisburg.html (Reuters) - If Pennsylvania's fiscally battered capital city wants to stage a Wild West-like battle with the creditors demanding every penny of the millions they are owed, it has enough muskets, stage coaches, sheriff's badges and ammunition to get the job done. Whether any of it would work is questionable. Desperate to rid itself of more than 8,000 artifacts and to climb out of a $300 million debt crisis, Harrisburg has allowed appraisers and auction houses into a storage space where the bits of Americana have been gathering dust for years. http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/11/03/us-harrisburg-artifacts-idUSTRE7A24V520111103
