Professor Tull, SASS #66742 Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 Here are a couple of lines from 2 songs - just because one mentions '45's', doesn't mean it is pistol/cowboy related, but hopefully the rest will be. Make a guess at the song and artist, and then add your own to try to stump the members of the Saloon. 1. "A Pair Of 45's Made Me Open My Eyes" 2. "As I Rode Into Tombstone On My Horse His Name Was Mac" Number one should be easy - an extra shot of George Dickel if you can get #2 without the help of Google. Tull

Professor Tull, SASS #66742 Posted November 8, 2011 Author Posted November 8, 2011 The first one was easy: Give the prize to the guy with the second answer - that one got past me! Shadow Catcher Very good ! The next 2 lines of #2 are: "I saw what I'll relate to you going on behind my back, It seems the folks were up in arms and a man now had to die..................." Think late 60's early 70's country folk rock. Banned in a lot of areas by the FCC, but heard regularly on Beaker Street. And be sure to make a contribution to see if you can stump some of the saloonaholics. Tull
DR. WHO Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 Number 2 is Mason Proffits "Two Hangmen" Just realized Buckhorn Woodie already posted the answer, and a great live version. Try these lyrics - "And the winners all grin and the losers say, oh won't you deal the cards again". ? ? ?

There building a gallows outside my cell My bills are all do and the baby needs shoes "My bills are all due and the baby needs shoes" - and I'm Busted! by Ray Charles But I'm not coming up with a Ray Charles song about 'building gallows'. As many Hoyt Axton fans and friends as there are in the saloon, I figured that one would be easy. Thanks for posting a video version I had never heard before. Now, how a about another verse or two from the first song you listed? And one from SoCal, circa 1990's: "I rode into town on a crippled horse Got fired from a cattle drive - up north The ropes of the gallows were swinging in the breeze All the wanted posters had pictures of me" ? ? ?

"I got my Colt 45 - right by my side I'm the 'CALIFORNIA KID' - I hope you're quite prepared to die." Country Dick Montana and the Beat Farmers - a favorite around our bunk house. To be played like you invented the "power chord". LW My apologies - this did not post in the way it was intended - it is supposed to be the opening bars for "RAWHIDE" by Link Wray.

BLACK ADDER Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 Thanks B. W. The great thing about threads like this, is I can always count on being turned on to music I was not familiar with. And I'm a Johhny Cash fan. "Long way from nowhere, wishin I was somewhere, Sombre di Cristo, the Devils Backbone." b adder
