My Favorite B Western Cowboy

As a kid I could not wait for Saturday morning so I could watch my favorite Western Hero on TV....but he was much more then a Movie Star...he was a songwriter & a poet...but he was much more...to this kid he was bigger then life as a kid I wished I would grow up to be half the man he was....here is one of his poems and a song....can you guess who is this Western Movie Hero is?

 

 

 

Oh, gather 'round me, comrades; and

listen while I speak

Of a war, a war, a war where hell is

six feet deep.

Along the shore, the cannons roar. Oh

how can a soldier sleep?

The going's slow on Anzio. And hell is

six feet deep.

 

Praise be to God for this captured sod that

rich with blood does seep.

With yours and mine, like butchered

swine's; and hell is six feet deep.

That death awaits there's no debate;

no triumph will we reap.

The crosses grow on Anzio, where hell is

six feet deep.

Audie Murphy is correct....Growing up I knew that movies were make believe and move stars were just actors playing a part as a hero in a movie.....all but one Audie Murphy was the real deal....Hero , Actor, poet & Songwriter ...He was only 5'4" tall and weighed 130 pounds soaking wet but for me he will always stand head & shoulders above the rest...
