Bad Bascomb, SASS # 47,494
I know who specializes in a lot of different kinds of CAS firearms, but I'm not sure of the SPECIALIST for Stoeger double-trigger S X S. My wife's Stoeger, which had problems when purchased used, has begun to act up again, with light firing pin hits and unreliable ignition. At first I thought she was 'short stroking' it when cocking, but not so. Even when it fires, the primer hits are not pronounced as they should be. Either or both barrels will malfunction. I've relieved the stock to prevent drag on sear levers, polished the insides of the receiver to eliminate hammer drag, polished edges of firing pin shoulders and cleaned out firing pin bushings, etc. At this point, with the Western Regional only three weeks away, we may have to share MY shotgun, but hers definitely needs fixing, and apparently, I'm not able to do it. So--- who's the 'Go to Stoeger guy', in your EXPERIENCE? Thanks for your help/ideas.
Griff
My two Stoegers have been utterly reliable for the 20+ years I've used them in CAS. But... for many in this area whose haven't been, they seem to swear by Goatneck Clem... rather than about him. And have seen that some from outside this area recognize his expertise as well. Charlie Whiskers
Are they the original firing pins?If so,they may have worn down enough to cause "light" hits.Call Longhunter and get his hardened firing pins.Drop right in and replace the softer steel ones used in the original. Rio Brazos Kid
Go to Lomghunter.com and purchase his Stainless Steel Firing Pins, (and get his wrench too), and replace your original firing pins. Stoeger firing pins are soft, and are notorious for mushrooming and failures to fire are common if this happens, (and it will, sooner or later. I would also replace your top lever spring with his replacement spring. T^his spring will make the opening of the gun easier for the lady, but will not permit any partial opening of the action, which can also cause FTF's. Here is a link to these parts. http://www.longhunt.com/gunparts/stoeger.htm RBK
Bad Bascomb, SASS # 47,494
Thanks, pards ! It's got the spring-- but I'm sure the pins are original. While they don't LOOK bad, I've experienced enoungh situations as an old time motorcycle mechanic where things 'looked fine' but really did need to be replaced for proper function. Customers often disputed our efforts, saying "Well, it LOOKS GOOD to me..." Uh huh, but did it WORK? I'll get the pins from Jim and if that don't do it, I'll need Goatneck Clem's contact info. Thanks a lot.

Bad Bascomb, SASS # 47,494
Thanks, Harvey-- that's my next step. Found the Longhunter special firing pins I got at the SASS Convention a couple years ago and put in a 'safe place'..... Tried it out this morning and while there IS some improvement, it's not 100% reliable yet. Glad you're back. Missed you at the Annual. Great weather and good shooting. Thanks again for the info, and I'll try REAL HARD to resist an SKB ...... (it would be for my WIFE, of course...)
