Chief Rick Posted October 9, 2011 Posted October 9, 2011 As a taxpayer, I would rather see this form of one up manship cease and have them work together to create what they REALLY need, not the most expensive item. We can't keep them from fighting over camoflauge - I don't think (unfortunately) we will ever see them agree on something big, like airplanes.
Chief Rick Posted October 9, 2011 Posted October 9, 2011 There are large problems with the LCS program too http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LCS-1 and http://www.wired.com/dangerroom/2011/07/plenty-of-blame-to-go-around-for-disappearing-warship/ http://www.wired.com/dangerroom/2011/06/shipbuilder-blames-navy-as-brand-new-warship-disintegrates And for an over view of the whole LCS program mess (and bear in mind that the VSTOL F35 was intended to provide the air support for these LCS vessels as the big bird farms do not like to get close to shallow water or coastlines) http://www.wired.com/dangerroom/tag/lcs/ We just awarded new contracts for ten of each version of the LCS from their perspective shipyards. Also, Austal was brought under the cognizance of the Supervisor of Shipbuilding Gulf Coast while Marinette (WI) was shifted to Supervisor of Shipbuilding Bathe (ME).

Glad to hear it I have friends that work at Bath Iron Works on what ever they are calling the DDX1000 these days so I do pay attention to what the navy is building these days... perhaps more so than the average guy does...But I heard from scuttlebutt in the area like roadhouses where personal from BIW are known to stop off for a beer on the way home that the problems reported in the wired article on the USS Independence were just the tip of the iceberg glad to hear it has been cleared up.
