First shot, a bolt action single shot .22 at a summer camp

First owned a Marlin bolt action mag fed .22, it got badly rusted and parts lost during the restore project, long gone gone.

Pistols

First shot, I really don't remember, but likely it was a Ruger Mark II

Bolt action single-shot .22LR rifle (not sure of mfg)

First pistol I remember shooting was a .38 Special revolver, many years after shooting running around the woods with that .22 rifle.

Had a .410 single-shot shotgun before I owned an air rifle.

First rifle was likely our Western Auto "Revelation" single shot .22 bolt action. When I was about 6 or 7 I got the old single shot that had a cocking toggle on the back of the bolt that had to be pulled back by hand. Put the butt against my stomach and use both hands to pull that back. No idea what brand it was. Taught me to make my shots count thought. Had standard open sights. And my dad had added a read ghost ring by welding a hex nut onto a band of sheet metal and fitting that to the receiver.

First handgun was my dad's Ruger Mk. 1.

My first rifle was a Glenfield model 80G bolt action rifle. I paid the princely sum of $23 new for it and $5.50 more for a brick of .22 ammo My mother and I rode a bus to the store to purchase it (try that today).

My first pistol was a Ruger Single Six convertible that I bought the day I turned 21. I think I paid somewhere around $60 for it. I still own both of them.

The first rifle I ever shot was one of those shooting gallery specials at a fair when I was probably seven or eight. The first pistol I ever shot was a High Standard Double Nine. The first center fire pistol I ever shot was a Ruger Black Hawk in .357 that belonged to my college roommate. I now own that one also

My first gun was a Remington Model 514 single shot bolt action 22. Killed a lot of shot gun shells and bottle caps with that little rifle. Paid $14.95 for that little gun when I was 14. Haven't shot it in years but it is still in the safe. First pistol was a Ruger Super Bearcat, steel frame, bought it for $50. Sold it to help finance my knifemaking.

First rifle was a Remington model #4 single shot rolling block.

My Grandfather gave it to me. It was his hog gun when he farmed.

My Dad bought me a Model 37 Winchester 16 Gauge single barrel shot gun for rabbits when I was 11.

I bought a Colt New Frontier .22 pistol about 1967 or so.

I still have the Remington, and the Winchester went to my Grandson. I traded the Colt.

My first rifle was a scoped Ruger 10/22 International. Still have this rifle.

My first time was with my Dad's .22 Wards Western Field bolt action made by Mossberg. It was supposed to have a clip, but my uncle lost it.

So from 7 years old on till he gave it to me at 21, it was a single shot. I bought a clip in 1971 and now it's a 7 shot clip, shoots .22 shorts, longs and long rifles. I gave it to my son when he turned 21.

Hand gun was a Smith&Wesson K 22 Masterpiece. My Uncle left it to me. Still loving that gun. Just sayin'

It was an old Ruger... 22.... I know taht cuz I called it a "rug;' er.. like a carpet.. lol Then a Ruger 357 I guess.. I know it was a Black Hawk.. had it for years until I was told to sell it.. ... I loved them both...... The 22 was a single six I think is what they called it.. not sure.. but it was older by the time I got to play with it. The rifle and 410 were fine with dad.. but the pistols were 'controlled" ..lol

Seems like most of us got our start with single shot bolt action .22s.

What surprises me is that there aren't more Ruger Mk 1s listed.

First shotgun was a Topper .410 then a .410 bolt gun (western field?) with a detachable box magazine. Then my dads Harrington & Richardson 12 ga. bolt gun.

The first rifle I shot was a Mossburg .22LR, bolt action, former army training rifle, at Boy Scout summer camp.

The first handgun I shot was a G.I. 1911A1, in the Navy.

I have no idea who made it, but I could field strip and reassemble it in under a minute, without any tools. We were not issued individual sidearms, but recieved a 1911A1, a web belt, canvas holster and two magazines containing five rounds each, when we relieved the watch.

The first rifle I owned was a Ruger 10/22 Carbine. I have owned six 10/22's, at various times. Still have the last four.(Manlicher, Carbine 10/22 Mag, Ruger Race Rifle, and a custom 10/22 with a thumbhole stock, a bull barrel, and a custom trigger.

The first handgun I owned was, and still is, a Colt Python .357 Magnum, Royal Blue, 4" bbl.

The second rifle I owned was, and still is, an M-1 Carbine, used in the Korean War.

The second handgun I owned was, and still is, an Original Ruger Super Blackhawk Dragoon .44 Magnum Buntline (10½" bbl).

First pistol shot, Thompson Contender in 45 Colt with screw in choke for .410. Bought when I was about 27 or 28. Never have shot it with 45 Colt but I still own it and I know where the choke wrench is.

First rifle was a "store brand" 22 with the cocking knob.

First pistol was a Mark I.

Did most of my hunting with a 61 cal 1836 musket converted from flint to percussion. It's the only one I still own. I was allowed to hunt with it before the 22 came along because the musket wasn't a "real" gun.

First rifle: Remington 700 in .270win.

When I was about 12. Before I only used shotguns. My dad got that rifle for me for Christmas when I was 11 or 12. I remember sneaking it outside after school one day and blasting a rabbit to kingdom come. Man did my shoulder hurt...Then my backside once my father found out. Oh it was worth it though.

First Pistol: Springfield XD 40

I bought that about 4 years ago. The week I got it I put about 1000 rounds through it. I followed that up with getting my CCW. I didn't carry until a friend of mine taught me what he learned in the Army Rangers. I became very familiar with that little gun. I try to practice with it at least twice a month.

First handgun was Gr. Grandpa's H&R .38 breaktop 5-shot, nickle plated. Still have it and the original box but needs work.

First rifle was the Glennfield/Marlin 80 DL bolt action, 7-shot clip and peepsight. Still have that one and shoot it often. Missing the knurled thumbscrew for the peep adjustment though, using an acorn nut.

We have a lot of great history on this board... My dad sometimes talks about stuff, and I try to store it in my pea brain... At times I ask him to please write it down.. his way of life is gone now.. our way will be someday.. Please write it down for you kids and their kids.. chances are they will want to know someday..and their world is so much different..
