Bullet Lubes

Flat Water Bob

Recommended Posts

I have a Lyman lube/sizer with the heat plate attachment. I have tried a number of Lyman lubes and want to see what else is out there for cowboy action bullets.

I see that Thompson is a popular lube. What do you use? Bear? Blue Angel?

Any other favorites...?

Smokeless lubes? These are cheap, and good enough for CAS purposes -

Jakes - http://www.jakesprod...om/product.html

White Label - http://www.lsstuff.com/lube/

Magma - http://www.magmaengi...m/products/lube

and BullShop, although he no longer has a web site. Email questions to him: bullshop@wildak.net

Have used all of these, have been satisfied with all as well. All run about $2 a stick compared to close to $4 for Thompson's line, Rooster Zambini and even more for some of the Lyman lubes recently. If you have a heater, use the high-heat lubes for easier, cleaner loading. A soft lube is perhaps more accurate, but will cause you to clean seating dies often.

Good luck, GJ

As Garrison Joe lists: White Label. I use Carnauba Red. Doesn't need a lot of heat. Use it for smokeless & BP subs.

I like the Magma, but I am not sure if they sell it in the hollow sticks needed for a Lyman. It's a little oilier than some of the cheaper wax lubes, (a little more slickum and a little less stickum) yet still stays put well. If ya buy a couple pounds at a time the shipping spreads better into the cost.

Lots of ho-made lubes available.

I like DDs Pearl Lube: 1 part Soy wax, 1 part toilet bowl ring and 1/2 part vegetable shortening.

Yeah, I forgot some folks don't like to melt their lubes in a double boiler. I run so much red Magma lue in my Star, that I sometimes forget I have a Lyman, and REALLY want to forget I have an RCBS sizer.

Good luck, GJ
