Doc Windshadow Posted September 18, 2011 Share Posted September 18, 2011 I just spent a few days with my older sister (visiting to help me with scanning and setting up to fix and edit them for future use) a large box of old photos; and in the boxes we discovered in a Lacquered binding Photos (many of them hand colored to a high standard) that were taken on a leg of a Round the World Cruise that my Great Grandmother took with my Grandfather after he graduated from Yale in 1901 ( I think the photos date from the spring of 1902near the end of the trip as they hit western Asia) I have posted them here http://gallery.me.com/windshadow#100203&bgcolor=black&view=grid and if anyone recognizes any of the locations could they please let me know? THanks Marshal, I did get that one but I hope to find out where it was taken from.... and I know it is a long shot but I figured the statues in a few of them might help. I do know that most of the locations are not distinctive enough (or have changed so much in 110 years) to ever be identified but even if a few can be ... well it would be nice. both my sister and I were knocked out by the incredible quality of the hand coloring that is seen in many of the photos (which by the way are no larger than 2 1/4 by 2 1/4 inches and are in the album 2 to a page we are guessing that the flim was left in Japan to be turned into the album and then mailed to them once they were home as painting all those colors in such detail must have taken a very long time (and a very tiny brush) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

He also grew about 30 varieties of onions, swam a mile a day and climbed Fujiyama every other year. (He was due for a climb about two months after I left to come back stateside in 1974.) See how a memory of more than half a lifetime ago can lead you astray? I guess as long as I don't forget my wife's name and birthday, and our wedding anniversary, I'll get by.
