Asa Smith
Hello Wire I just aquired a savage springfeild model 511. It was setting in a damp basement and has rust all over it. I need help on getting it taken apart. It is not like all the other shotguns i have, when you unscrew the forarm there is a strut and spring under it that prevents the gun from just coming apart like all other shotguns I have seen I'm sure there is a simple way to take it apart, just want a little advise before I go braking anything or having parts fly. Anyone that owns a gun like this, I would appreciate all info. Thanks Asa Smith
Driftwood Johnson, SASS #38283
Howdy I'm pretty sure the Savage Springfield Model 511 is very similar to the Savage/Stevens Model 311. 'Springfield' was just a brand name that Savage used at one point for their lower priced shotguns because they were located very near Springfield Mass, where the National Armory was. If you go to this page and scroll down to the bottom there are links to a very well written article about working on the Stevens 311. Hopefully some of it will be pertinent to the Model 511.
