The house was shakin'..... my new MAN CAVE?

5.9, the largest ever recorded in the Washington DC area.

It was an eye opener and something we are not use to. But it pales with what our friends on the left coast deal with.

The lamp over my PC was swinging around like I was on a boat. I guess I will not know about cracks in my house until the next rain.

Shakin's over, lets go shootin'.

I was reloading when it hit; thought my wife missed the garage entrance again. During this exciting time, the snap ring on my .38 decapping Dillon die broke. Oh the Humility! Luckly, its happened before, and I had spares thanks to Dillon.

There was one interesting follow-on. My wife was playing the slots at the Charles Town Casino. The quake knocked out their central computer and she had to sit for 2 hours to get her machine payoff done manually. She was not a happy camper.

I was sitting at the computer when it rolled through here. Missouri Marshal was taking a nap at the time. I have finally found SOMETHING that will wake him up! Just scared the bejesus out of me. Now, on to the next chapter, Hurricane Irene......

In light of the earth quake a few minutes ago.... I'm considering this option.

any way a new mancave?

It looks like something found on the Maginot line.

That tent thingy is a joke. It likely wouldn't hold together because it won't flex at all. I'd be doubtful of its rigidity under loads like heavy snows, too, and it may nor stand up to high winds and debris impacts.

Save your money until it proves itself to someone besides the manufacturer's ad writers.

Howdy, Pards,

Thankfully no one was apparently hurt and maybe not much structural damage...although CNN just showed a teaser of a cinderblock building having fallen down. Apparently, we had a 5.4 job out in S.E. Colorado this morning. Some folks said they felt it in Aurora, but in the southern suburbs of Denver, I slept through it, if indeed there was any shaking! Weird coincidence! Everyone worries about "The Big One" hitting out on the Left Coast, but the one that really could wreak havoc would be if the New Madrid (Ma-Drid)fault cuts loose. Back in IIRC 1818 there was a 7.9 or maybe a 9.0 quake along the New Madrid, which runs in the Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky area (okay, geologists, correct me). But that last big one was when there were a few Indian villages and a trading post or two. Hate to think what would be the result if that sucker lets go!

Ya know, all these politicians claim they're gonna shake up Washington... Looks like Ma Nature really did the job! :o

Ride easy, but stay alert! Godspeed to those still in harm's way in the defense of Freedom everywhere! God Bless America!

Your Pard,

Yup, a big quake on the New Madrid fault could level both Memphis and Saint Louis, and drop every bridge between Vicksburg and Davenport. Won't be pretty.

Heard some earth scientist saying the North American continent is still rebounding from the weight of the last Ice Age glaciers, which could be the source of some of these mid-plate faults.

Seismologists and Scientist have been studying all the data from today's Virgina earthquake and have discovered the origin of the earthquake.

I think I'll pass on the concrete cavern. Don't have a forklift or a 4 wheel drive to set it up. Gotta wonder, why the tents inside the enclosure?

As far as the earthquake.......the earth has to "pass gas" at sometime or another, what better place than the D.C. area. That area seems to have alot of built up pressure. :o
