...and fearful that the Saloon might turn into The Wire with booze, I decided to try out that recipe for the coffee cup brownie.

3 minutes and 13 seconds later I had a nice chocolate treat. Mmmmmmm

Now it looks like it's fixin to storm. I'd better go pull the flag down before the 0plle becomes a lightning rod.

Well, you likely don't have the stuff to make it at work anyway.

5 MINUTE CHOCOLATE MUG CAKE

4 tablespoons flour

4 tablespoons sugar

2 tablespoons cocoa

1 egg

3 tablespoons milk

3 tablespoons oil

3 tablespoons chocolate chips (optional)

A small splash of vanilla extract

1 large coffee mug (MicroSafe)

Add dry ingredients to mug, and mix well.

Add the egg and mix thoroughly.

Pour in the milk and oil and mix well..

Add the chocolate chips (if using) and vanilla

extract, and mix again.

Put your mug in the microwave and cook for 3

minutes at 1000 watts.

The cake will rise over the top of the mug,

but don't be alarmed!

Allow to cool a little, and tip out onto a

plate if desired.

EAT !

(this can serve 2 if you want to feel slightly more virtuous).

Why is this the most dangerous cake recipe

in the world?

Because now we are all only 5 minutes away

from chocolate cake at any time of the day or night!

Of course, that is a cake.

Here is a version of the brownie, as I believe Bob mentioned he made.

4 tablespoons flour

4 tablespoons sugar

2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa

dash of salt

2 tablespoons vegetable oil

2 tablespoons water

1/3 teaspoon vanilla

small handful of chocolate chips (optional)

That's it!

Instructions

Whisk together dry ingredients in a coffee mug, standard size (11 oz.) or larger. Add oil, water, and vanilla and mix thoroughly -- making sure to scrape the bottom and sides so that it's all incorporated. If you'd like, mix in chocolate chips.

Microwave on high for 1 to 1 1/2 minutes. The finished product will be soft-ish and chewy.

Cool for a minute. Eat right out of the mug :)

my daughter came home from her first year of college with all sorts of interesting recipes that could be made in a microwave...dorm cooking at it's best.

Back before microwaves were small, light, and relatively inexpensive I learned 'percolator cuisine' in the dorm. Pasta, boiled eggs, hot dogs, soup. We couldn't have toasters or toaster ovens in the rooms. Weren't supposed to have the coffee pots either, but those were given a wink and a nod.

Okay here's the formula:

2 Tablespoons melted Butter

2 Tablespoons of water

1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

Dash of salt

4 Tablespoons of sugar

2 Tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder

4 tablespoons of all purpose flour

Whisk the wet ingredients in a coffee mug.

Add the cocoa powder and whisk well.

Add the sugar and whisk.

Add the flour and whisk.

Put it in the microwave for 60-90 seconds. Don't overcook Center should be slightly molten.

Eat it.

Careful, it'll be dang hot!

Got it from food.com I think.

Tasty! I'll give it 4 spoons. Even a caveman can do it.

After 5 it goes well with a bit of Port or Brandy. :D

As much as I have to diet, I'd still prefer the brownies to the political talk. :P

A balanced diet is a brownie in each hand.

That's the basic recipe. Nutz and chocolate chips can of course be added at one's whim.

Or rum.

Sorry, guilty, but I'm an easy mark. I taught Civcs and Current Events last semester. My bad, I'll make a point to stay away from those toopics.

Don't ferget to go nutz, Grizz.

My wife is on a WW diet, so I have to be careful of what I bring into the house to eat.

Poor gal has enough challenges, I don't need to add to 'em.

My daughter gets home from vacation tomorrow. Maybe I will make some nut filled brownies and take them to her house to store for me. Naaaa, they would not last the hour. But I could share some with her over a cuppa joe. :)
