H. K. Uriah, SASS #74619
Consider the following side match. You make use of all the guns that are used in SASS, either in a Main Match or various Side Matches. To keep it simple, all guns are staged on a long shelf, and you move from left to right, one gun at a time from "weakest" to "most powerful," which are of course, subjective terms. Guns would be set in the following order... .22 Revolver. .22 Rifle Derringer Pocket Pistol Main Match Revolver Main Match Rifle Single Shot Rifle Rifle Caliber Repeater Single Shot Shotgun Hammered Double Hammerless Double 1887 (magazine pre stoked) 1897 (magazine pre stoked) Granted, not everyone will own all of these types of guns, so the side match would have to offer some of them to fill up the battery. I think it *might* be a fun way to experience some of the guns that are not normally used and/or side match guns all at the same time for contrast. Option: If Wild Bunch is popular in the area, add a 1911.
Rance - SASS # 54090
sounds interesting and fun.. but you'd have to have a loading table a mile long...
Artic Fox, SASS# 39883
Well now, the pards down at Possum Trot have done did that nearly the same similar thang as you speak. They even had a spear and hatchet. Check it out!

We have a complete match in our area coming up first of September kind a like that.. No spears or tomahawks though.. that might start somethin' Full 5 stages.. shoot 2 rifles (10 rounds each), 4 pistols (5 rounds each), and a whole lot of shotgun one each stage.. Some stages yer just runnin' all over... By the time your done you've shot 10 stages.. Fun match though.. lotta gun sharin' "True Grit" at Little York.. by the Shady Creek Shootist.. put on by Dapper Dan, Ole #7 and Muleskinner Mary.. Lots of fun.. Pulp, SASS#28319
Badlands Bar 3 has a similar side match called the Shoot n Scoot. Guns are spread out over three stages on tables. It's equal to an entire match in whatever time it takes you to run it. Most folks complain of tired thumbs before they're done. Reloading is done wherever the gun is staged by posse members spread out along the tables.
Just George SASS 68097
The Robbers Roost Vigilantes have been using a side match we call The Great Train Robbery for 4 or 5 years. There are 11 guns in all, from a .22cal pistol up through a big bore single shot rifle. You shoot 67 rounds in all from 5 different shooting windows. We hold this side match during our annual shoots, Defend the Roost in Oct and Resurrection at Robbers Roost in May. It is one of the more popular side matches we offer. See here Robbers Roost Vigilantes for more info. Just George
Nasty Newt # 7365
We do something similar, call it The Great Train Robbery. 10 guns, 62 rounds. Targets include a Texas Star and a Flying Pig. We do it on a wide set with 5 shooting positions. It's a blast. Gun sharing is SOP. You can shoot it at Defend the Roost in October, www.robbersroostvigilantes.com. Grizzly Dave
I've shot the shoot and scoot, it's a hoot. The idea in the OP sounds fun to me, I'd shoot it. The Humdinger looks fun too, I'd shoot it too, just don't expect me to run, I'm more of a slow mosey feller.

And yeah, Grizz, I'm no runner either. took me 'bout two minutes to run it the last time. I think the record is around fifty-four seconds. We've even had a Hawken Rifle a time or two. Grizzly Dave
As I remember it, when they called for my time and misses for the shoot and scoot, there answers were "a long time" and "a bunch" Brother King was a bit faster than I was.

You do get a workout popping all those primers, and it lets you shoot guns you've never tried before. However, it can get expensive. After shooting Lumpy Grits' marvelous Winny 1886, I HAD to have a .45-70!

Pitmaster, SASS #78461
I've been toying with the idea of putting together a 3 stage "tactical" cowboy match. Shooter would start on one stage with either shotgun or rifle shoot the stage leaving one of the long guns there then moving down a line of 3 stages shooting and loading rifle or shotgun and pistols as needed.
