H. K. Uriah, SASS #74619
Well, thanks to FedEx, the 1887 Winchester I purchased arrived at my house today. According to the serial #, it was made in 1888, and dang it it doesn't look brand new! It's a REAL pretty gun, and I think I got it for a song. Now I just gotta dig out all my all brass shells and reload them. I'm not gonna bother lengthening the chamber, I'll just use shells that are 2-1/2" long. Oh, and it is now very clear to me why so many people stress that you have to throw that lever with athority. THe action is very smooth, and it is very easy to just casually thow it. But if you do that, shells won't come out of the magazine. You've got to run it hard, which is apparently how it was made to be done. I am very glad I listened to what folks here on the Wire told me about the originals and how to shoot them a few weeks back when I made some inquiries. They have paid off. I can't wait to make this thing go boom!

Jed Irons
Nice find! Why did it have to ship through an FFL, if it was made in 1888? I think an 1887 is the next gun on my list to acquire.

I have about half a dozen antiques in my C&R book cuz the seller would not simply send it to me.
