Ladies - need advice on holster rig

Sweet Trouble

Recommended Posts

Howdy all,

I'm looking to buy an upgraded rig from what I have now. Ladies.... do you have any recommendations for me? I'm looking for something around $500 or less if possible that's relatively attractive but more importantly, fits well and is good quality and will be fully functional for SASS shooting. I'm a little unsure of where to start looking, other than places like Mernickle/Kirkpatrick et al and what I normally see in the Chronicle (not that they are off my list, but I'd like some options). Also, if you have opinions or experience with Mernickle and Kirkpatrick's products, that feedback is useful also.

Thanks in advance,

"Only sometimes Sweet, but always Trouble" :)

Sweet Trouble, I love your alias!

Can't really help you on the rig, but I'd imagine fit and comfort to your size and body type is going to be key. If possible look at and try different rigs that the ladies in the clubs around you are using so that when you 'pull the trigger' on a new rig, you know it will be what you want.

You might give Aspen Filly a call and chat with her about it. I've seen up close one of the ladies rigs she made, and it was absolutely beautiful. Even if you don't have her make your rig, I think she'd be happy to talk with you about it and give you lots of good information. In addition to being a top notch engraver, leather worker, and shooter, she's a heck of a nice gal.

Best of luck in your search.

Grizz

he made a custom rig for Polly at a fraction of the price the "big" guys get and she absolutely loves it.

+1 on the Dixie Bell by Ted Blocker.

My little lady shootin' pard ordered one at EoT this year after visitin' with the wonderful gal at TB's stand. Very accomodating and knowledgable on lady's shootin' leather. A very fine lady's shootin' rig if I do say so me ownself. Great leather, great product, great customer service.

Wife got this rig from Lone Rider Leather about 7 months ago.

She really likes it.

I have been shooting a Kirkpatrick rig for years.

Ordered another one from Kirkpatrick about 2 months ago.

Sent it back for a refund. That's another story.

Was this a quality issue? I'm asking because I've actually considered their Lady Tequila rig and I'd like to know if you had problems with their product quality or manufacture. Private message is fine if you don't want to post it on the forum.

Thanks

Sweet T, there is not a shortage of good to excellent holster makers but a look around will show that many select a preferred zone, ie, some tend to specialize in more historical styles while others tend to go towards more modern rigs. The two makers of which you give example tend to cater to the competitive shooters while a quick peek at makers like Wild Rose or Purdy Gear make beautiful examples of more historically styled leather. I'm not pigeon holing the makers but the bigger, more busy, makers do tend to gravitate towards specializing. What this means to you, decide what you want out of SASS before shopping for gear and you may already pretty much know. Give us an idea and let us go beyond just what interests the responder and get to what would be right for you. If there is any interest in historical representing let us know, most women are not into that, but beyond that show us something that has already caught your eye. Buscadero rigs do naturally well for some ladies due to their uuuh shape and high waist! I always like to recommend the following site for fokes who want to talk leather with a group of makers BUT REPEAT, know what you want and do not let anyone steer you towards what they want you to have!
