this week turned out to be busy, so I put some hours in. On Friday night I hoped to be on here after work no matter how late. But I passed up my home made lunch and ate out at lunch. My taco was okay, but i had some thing called a fish puposa, or something like that and a chicken one too.. I tried a bite of each. They did not set well. By the time I left I was pretty sure I was going to die.. lol... Poor Rat dog had to go out in public to pee with a mom all bent over like i was a drunk or something.. lol.. Finally it slowed down to just being sick, not a ton of pain.. and as I slipped into bed I prayed to simply go to sleep.. I figured it was up to God if I got over it or not.. nothing I could do... And sure enough Sat. morning I was back on top of the world!!

I was told today it could be food poisoning, but I think my tummy just didn't like the food. But I was cold clammy like and then sweaty .. so what is the difference between eating something that disagrees with you.. or something that is tainted? Anyone have any experiences?

I had food poisoning in '05, three days in ICU, two more in a regular room. When you get it you will probably know it. Water, jello, nothing would stay in or down. After every movement, another pill, they did not want to stay down either. The only thing working was the IV's. Not a pretty sight. If I get a taste of something that is off, I'm done. Strange part is the food I ate did not really taste bad. Thanks Padre, you saved me!!!!

Glad you are OK.

Fever, cramps, running from both ends is classic food poisoning from what I know.

Sorry that you went through it, glad you are better now.

Food that disagrees with you: "No! I don't need no stinkin' tobasco sauce! No! I don't need no onions!...."

Food that is tainted: "'Taint gonna be good for ya, ifn ya eats me.... Taint no way yur gittin thu this w'out some sickness..."

Like that.

Have had food poisoning three times. Once in Manila, once in Kingston, Jamaica and once in Leesburg, Virginia. Not much I could have done to alleviate it as the damage had already been done. Just remembered not to get more than a couple of steps from the throne holding a waste basket.

Considering all the stuff I've eaten in my travels, it's amazing I haven't suffered from it more. What's even more amazing is it never hit me in the boondocks where refrigeration and sanitation were marginal at best. All three times it was in relative modern sanitary conditions.

As far as what caused it. Bad hamburger at a Cineplex in Manila, jerk chicken from a food stand in Kingston, and something not kosher at my favorite Chinese restaurant in Leesburg. In all three cases there was no bad taste of smell. Everything seemed normal.

Got food poisoning at the Queen Mary in '75. Thought I was gonna die for a few hours and then was afraid I'd never die! Spent a night in the hospital and three more on bed rest in the Barracks.

Haven't been back to the QM since.

What you had was not a mere upset tummy.

Either food poisoning or an allergic reaction.

Food poisoning is much more common than most folks think.

food poison can present as anything from something not much worse than travelers trots(which most of the time is caused by eating or drinking something at odds with your normal internal flora and fauna and and can happen just from drinking water from a well in the next town) all the way to something that can kill you almost every time like Botulism

There are lots of things that can cause it. I had a friend that got real sick from drinking water that had some natural concentration of arsenic but the folks that drank it every day never got sick from it

Glad you are feeling better

Food posioning usually hits about 6 hours after you eat it and certain things like under cooked fish or chicken can get you a little sooner. Onions can cause posioning when mixed with eggs and/or mayo (like potato salad). Got sick once at RR Bar when I ate Lions Club dinner of hamburgers and potato salad, it was later at night and was the last serving, I should have known better.

=====================================

I had dysentery in the P.I. The whole base came down with it because of tainted water supplies, but we were squared away after 4 or 5 days. All the stuff I ate and drank off-base and in Manila and Baguio, I never had a problem. Never had a problem drinking off-base water either.

I got a bad case of food poisoning from a Chinese food place. Got me a couple of hours after I left and was out of town hooking up a kitchen sink. Didn't think I'd make I home. I was toilet-ridden for a couple of days. I don't think I was out of the restroom for more than 5 minutes, even then I had a wastebasket with me. Couldn't eat, drink, couldn't do much of anything. Haven't been back there since.

yeah, see you all were really sick.. mine was over with and by the next day I was eating again.. I think it was just a reaction,.. maybe it was allergies. My sister and brother in AZ were stung by Scorpions in AZ several years back.. They both ended up in the hospital. As kids we were bee stung and even poison ivy did not effect us.. Suddenly they both were sick from a bark scorpion.. (little one so my guess is a bark scorpion).. Anyhow my sister now can't eat shell fish, and she can go into shock over a bee sting. I guess times changes you?

I stopped at Popeye's for a tub of red beans and rice a few years back. I was on my way to an airshow in Traverse city MI. I got to the hanger and didn't feel so good during the pre flight. Me and my back seater climbed in to the aircraft and took off. During climb out we were down wind of Gary Indiana and I felt a bad gas bubble building up in my stomach, thinking it was because of the increase in altitude, I lifted up a bit to expel the gas build up. A few seconds later I hear my back seater on intercom saying "Holy crap!, PJ do you smell that?"

I said "Smell it? I'm sittin in it!!!"

Last time I had red beans and rice, amazing how you can have a half quart of stuff going in and then 6 gallons going out
