Forty Rod SASS 3935 Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 This is the final shakeout. We're going to meet at Shaker's family Restaurant, 801 N. Central Ave., Glendale at 11:00 AM for lunch. at 1:00 PM we are to meet Solomon Star, one of us who is a docent there, in the lobby of the Autry Museum for a tour of the place. Come early, stay late. Lunch is reasonable depending on what you order. Go to http://shakersrestaurants.net/loca tion.html for more information. Rates for the museum are Adults = $8.00, Seniors and kids 13-18 = $$4.80. Go to http://th eautry.org for more info. A majority of the attendees are coming in costume so feel free to do so, but don't be embarrassed and not show up if you choose not to wear yours. It's up to you. I don't know if the GLB will ever do anything like this again. I could be a one shot deal or nay turn into some sort of annual thing. It depends on the results of this one. Bring a guest or several.....the more the merrier. I need a rough count by the 25th of who is coming because the rates are higher if we don't have at least ten people show up. We hope to see you there. Tom "Forty Rod"Taylor gun.slick@juno.com

Forty Rod SASS 3935 Posted July 15, 2011 Author Posted July 15, 2011 Okay, how the hell do I change the heading to read 28th instead of 23rd?
Big Jake1001 Posted July 15, 2011 Posted July 15, 2011 Go back an do an edit, but click on Use Full Editor to change the header. Just sayin' Big Jake
Deja Vous Posted July 15, 2011 Posted July 15, 2011 BTT.. I am working on getting time off to be there.. This would be so darn cool...
Forty Rod SASS 3935 Posted July 15, 2011 Author Posted July 15, 2011 Go back an do an edit, but click on Use Full Editor to change the header. Just sayin' Big Jake Thanks, Shorty. I owe you.
Forty Rod SASS 3935 Posted July 15, 2011 Author Posted July 15, 2011 BTT.. I am working on getting time off to be there.. This would be so darn cool... Tell 'em you got a doctor's appointment. Say you're having a radiogram because you're pregnant and don't know who the mother is. That should confuse the heck out of 'em and they'll let you go just to be on the safe side.
Ethan Cord Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 Yes but when the Doc confirms the pregnancy and Deja asks "Doc, are you sure it's mine?" imagine the look on the Doc's face!! Tell 'em you got a doctor's appointment. Say you're having a radiogram because you're pregnant and don't know who the mother is. That should confuse the heck out of 'em and they'll let you go just to be on the safe side.
Ethan Cord Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 We have decided to attend this event instead of going to Legends of the West. Too many things to do in one week. Crazy Cora's birthday and our 26th anniversary. We also have a new nephew to go visit. Life is good but busy. Add two more to the list.
Forty Rod SASS 3935 Posted July 17, 2011 Author Posted July 17, 2011 Good. The count is now 13 confirmed. Keep 'em coming, folks. Our record total for a "regular" event (Not commemorative lunches for lost pards) is 26...back about five years ago. We can beat that. PS. the people saying they'll be wearing costumes are at 5 so far, with two more maybes.
Forty Rod SASS 3935 Posted July 18, 2011 Author Posted July 18, 2011 Well then, "dress cowboy" and drag your butt out here to join us. Bring family and friends. You could use a good meal by the time you get here.
Forty Rod SASS 3935 Posted July 19, 2011 Author Posted July 19, 2011 :D :D :D my butt! Are you coming or not? I'll save up to six places for you and your groupies entourage.
Deja Vous Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 :D :D :D my butt! Are you coming or not? I'll save up to six places for you and your groupies entourage. Well, so far I have viewed the time off calendar and it does not look good for me.. so the " oh man I don't feel well" day off might have to work for me for once.. I need practice ..lol And the beauty is in wearing my 1890's outfits.. I love shooting, and the dress is the second part.. but in truth.. I did come for the shooting and the outfits.. and suddenly found the nicest people in the whole world.. so gosh..... I am staying.. lol..
Forty Rod SASS 3935 Posted July 19, 2011 Author Posted July 19, 2011 Keep at it. We have 13 who are planning on being there. If four drop out for some reason we have to pay the full rate. (Howzatt for laying on a guilt trip?)
Grizzly Dave Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 I'll be there in spirit and in costume. Wish I could be there in person, sounds like a great time. You all have fun! Grizz
Forty Rod SASS 3935 Posted July 19, 2011 Author Posted July 19, 2011 Thanks, Grizz. We're gonna do exactly that.
Bama Red Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 I'll be with Grizz - ya know - the in spirit and in costume thing. Gotta make it out to California at least once in my life, but it ain't gonna be soon, unfortunately.
Blackwater 53393 Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 Hey Bama!! What are the chances of a "East of the Big Muddy" GLB club gettin started? We gots lots of good stuff over on the startin' out side of the country, and all the "War of Northern Aggression" stuff fits in too. Just sayin'! Oh yeah!! Wish I could make that one too!
Cliff Hanger #3720LR Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 I have a thought. For those of you not able to attend GLB gatherings due to distance, if you want to start up your own lunch gatherings, let me know. I maintain Forty Rod's GLB web page. I'm sure I can talk him in to letting me expand the page to include your lunch locations. See Forty Rod has no idea how web pages work so he can't stop me any way. And I have stories about him that he may not want put out in public. hee hee. Tom, what do you think about starting up chapters of GLB around the country or why limit this. . . . "the world."

I think it's a grand and glorious idea. ("Today, Southern California. Tomorrow, THE WORLD!) Take a look below. (BTW, I just checked and you don't have the Autry trip on the BP site yet.) Black Des...and any others...you'll have one whenever you start one. Our started when Old Scout, Joy Belle, and I met for lunch one day ad thought it was fun, so we scheduled another one two weeks later. Cliff Hanger joined us about that time and we simply grew. Along about the fifth meeting or so someone came up with the name. It stuck. During the first year, Lefty found us a mascot, Grumpy the GLB bear. We meet every other Thursday at 11:00 AM because that seems to be when we have the least conflict with other customers. We never meet in the same place twice in a row. We choose places that are quiet (we aren't there to listen to music, watch TV, or put up with other people's snotty kids), have good service, have good food at reasonable prices, have room for a group of 10-15 people, and will give us individual checks. We generally favor small operations over large impersonal chains, but some larger places work. Be selective. We don't have many rules. DON'T OVER-THINK, OVER-MANAGE, or OVER-COMPLICATE IT!!! I think we've lasted going on 5 (4? 6? Who knows?) years now because we haven't tried to make it anything but lunch with friends. Check out the Brimstone Pistoleros website for full list of rules, an up to date (usually) schedule of the next event with location and (sometimes) directions. There's an awful lot of other good stuff on that site, too. Take a look. Primary focus is on friendship and camaraderie, and having fun. Let me know if you need help, suggestions, or heckling, but I won't set it up for you. I don't know where all the restaurants are around here so I wouldn't even guess at the ones anywhere else. Just call a couple of folks and go have lunch.
Cliff Hanger #3720LR Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 Did you Refresh? Kidding. I took care of it. . . . .The Grumpy Lunch Bunch schedule page
Forty Rod SASS 3935 Posted July 20, 2011 Author Posted July 20, 2011 Did you Refresh? Kidding. I took care of it. . . . .The Grumpy Lunch Bunch schedule page Thank you, sir. Now everyone, get over there and check it out. There's just over a week left until the Autry event. Who on that side of the state will be there? Red? Daniel? Rick? C'mon! You know you want to> You're a daisy if you do.
