The Dog That Cornered OBL

When U.S. President Barack Obama went to Fort Campbell, Kentucky, last week for a highly publicized but very private meeting with the commando team that killed Osama bin Laden, only one of the 81 members of the super-secret SEAL DevGru unit was identified by name: Cairo, the war dog.

Cairo, like most canine members of the elite U.S. Navy SEALs, is a Belgian Malinois. The Malinois breed is similar to German shepherds but smaller and more compact, with an adult male weighing in the 30-kilo range.

In the article is says that sometimes the dogs don't jump tandem. Automatically opening the chute? The man pulls the cord for the dog? Dog pulls its own cord?

I don't know.

I've jumped many times.......guess it could be set automatically.

Don't see how a man could pull it........man is heavyer den da dawg.

Somebody weigh in here.........

Dogs always jump tandem with chutes. They were referring to low level water jumps like the one in the second picture up from the bottom. That's a 10th Special Forces Group dog team on a recent exercise. The dog's name is Pronto.

You can't let a dog jump by himself. The chute might pop at the intended altitude but how does he control his canopy after that? What if he sees a cat down below? Al;l hell would break loose. ;)

Also it would be very embarrassing if you land in the center of the DZ and your hound lands on an enemy mess hall. Especially a Korean one!

Tricky for him to get out of the harness too. No thumbs.
