Wing Shot
I just bought a new Uberti 1873 and the video "Complete Winchester 73 Disassembly/Reassembly". I wanted to do a complete cleaning. When I got to the part about disassembly of the bolt and striker, the video said to knock out a 1/16 pin. My rifle has no such pin. Any suggestions on how to take apart the bolt/striker? Garrison Joe, SASS #60708
Yep, your gun has the new style firing pin extension and bolt. Here's a diagram showing the removable front link pin and the firing pin extension stop that will come loose when you push out the front link pin. Numbered 105 and 721 on the diagram. http://www.vtigunpar...ucts.asp?page=2 VTI is a great source of parts when you need some, too. Good luck, GJ
August West, SASS #45079
The pin that the toggles ride on at the front (the one attached to the bolt) has to be drifted out. This frees a key that drops down to free the firing pin extension. On many new Ubertis, this pin is very, very tight. This will, of course, unnerve someone who's never taken one of the new ones apart. Those who've taken them apart just get angry. Apparently, the gorilla that used to tighten the lifter and lever springs at the Uberti factory got promoted to installing firing pin extensions.
