slightly OT: is there a 1911A3 colt?

Howdy

I have looked all over the web looking for info on 1911A3.

the 1911A3 may be somesort of nickname or something.

Any facts or reference material would be welcome.

I have collected (and shot) 1911 and 1911A1's for years. Have some very good and complete reference books on original 1911 & 1911A1's of all manufactures. I have never come across a 1911A3 ( or A2 ). Your source probably is confusing them with the 1903A3 rifle.

I'm fairly certain it was a hybrid of the two ... an experimental bolt-action pistol. ;)

Several decades ago, before it was a problem with ATF. A 1911 was re-configured into a selective fire. I understand about a handfull of these exist, and the person that did this desginated them as A3s. A shoulder stock was attached, and the selector switch could be single, or burst fire select. MT

I should add, this was not a military contarct, but rather civilian gunmaker.
