The Ideal Guncart

Recommended Posts

I have a nice simple guncart. In fact, I think that's the name of it, the Simple Guncart.

It holds 5 longuns, with two of the slots fatter for shotguns, has a decent size box for ammo and stuff down low, and a smaller box up near the handle that I usually dump empties in.

It's a nice cart. I like it.

But I feel a need for something more.

Ideally, I think the "perfect" guncart would have the following features...

Space for 6 long guns, 3 rifles, 3 shotguns.

A good size box for ammo and stuff.

A holder for umbrella.

A shelf to put a small cooler on to carry water.

I have seen these features on several guncarts, but not one cart with ALL of them.

Anyone have any recommendations of where to look to find one?

I started with a golf cart and a box.....went to a Harbor Freight Welding cart.....to a Hole N Wall big ass cart.....to a Hole N Wall 4 gun .....to a Take down cart for 3 .....and I now have a Ruged cart for four long guns and I like it the best. Light weight, holds a lot. Unless you are sharing a cart 4 should be enough for long guns....pushes easy, folds up....milleage may vary.

Two carts for me:

1) three-gun cart with removable tree (vertical section) to be used at monthly one-day matches

2) four-gun cart with larger storage for use at state and regional matches

No umbrellas, built-in coolers or other items that turn guncarts into RV's.

The best thing that I ever saw on a guncart was a 10-item checklist viewed that the cowboy reviewed before leaving the loading table: count shtogun shells, have extra rifle rounds, check rifle sights, check pistol grips for tightness, etc.. This list was a 6"x8" brass plate that had been made by a trophy shop and was viewed EVERY time by this shooter. When I have an oops on the line that could have been prevented I always remember this plate.

I have the Rugged Gear 3-gun cart and I like it a lot. I built a copy of this Jackrabbit gun cart that I had before and it worked real well. I let someone talk me out of it, but it was a good cart. Remember the K.I.S.S. principle ( Keep It Simple Stupid).

Everything you want except the umbrella holder can be found in my plans for the "Rough Rider Gun cart".

You would have to make some modifications to expand it from 5 to 6 guns, but that is easily done. You hang a cooler under the "key box" on the back of the cart.
