Ezekiel James
A friend of mine (yes, I have friends ) ) is looking for some .38-40 dies. Have been unsuccessful finding any at any of the local outlets that sell such. Anyone possibly getting out of that caliber that would have dies for sale? Thanks in advance. Dubious Don #56333
Midway has them. I've been very happy wit hthe Lee dies I have (though I prefer RCBS) You also might want to check out the factory crimp die. I just discovered this little jewel and it sure is slick! http://www.midwayusa.com/viewproduct/?productnumber=672858
Indy Kid, SASS #4638
I started reloading the 38-40 about 15 years ago and the best dies I have found for it are the Hornaday dies. http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/default.aspx?productNumber=550764 Some brands of dies do not move the shoulder back far enough to let rounds chamber in some guns. It's not a problem if you only have one gun, but can be a problem if you have several. Indy
Tom Bullweed
I use the newer Lee dies. I removed .062" (1/16") from the sizing die to move the shoulder back to where it belongs. This is more critical for pistols since levering a round into the chamber will 'move' the shoulder if it is short. This can add some stress to levering, but the brass is very thin and moves pretty easily. I run into the same with .32 WCF.
