Love it or hate it, it has been our mainstay for longer than any other battle rifle the U.S. has used. If it is replaced by better technology, that is more reliable, or as reliable and less expensive, then great. Just don't replace it to replace it. SOCOM cancelled the SCAR project (in 5.56mm) last year sighting that it wasn't a significant enough improvement over the M4 to justify the cost of converting.
