DocDisaster # 45431
I just picked up a brace of 7" Uberti Schofields, one is very smooth the other one binds quite a bit when cocking it. It cocks smoothly when open and the cylinder rotates freely when opened, the minute I close it it binds, there is good clearance on the cylinder face, I think it may be the rod binding, it is well lubricated. Any ideas?? Doc

Doc Crumley
My dad has a pair and one started binding periodically. Had a smith look at it and he found some small burs in the works and that the bolt was dropping just a hair late and catching the cylinder as it started to rotate. He smoothed out the burs and put a slight bevel on the side of the bolt to let the cylinder ride over it and that sovled the problem. DocDisaster # 45431
After extensive evaluation and a comperative study with the one that was not binding, it appears there were several issues, rather than overwhelm myself I worked on it over a period of days. The hand needed to be reshaped slightly and fitted. The bolt or stop needed to be reshaped and polished. I touched up the extractor a little. A few burs here and there needed to be removed and a little polishing done. A little lubrication And it seems to be working just fine now!!!!
