Jack Houston # 35508
Something I didn't know...from Imdb Holden was cast as Pike Bishop in The Wild Bunch (1969) after the role had been turned down by Lee Marvin, Burt Lancaster, James Stewart, Charlton Heston, Gregory Peck, Sterling Hayden, Richard Boone and Robert Mitchum. Marvin actually accepted the role but pulled out after he was offered a larger pay deal to star in Paint Your Wagon (1969)

Yellowhouse Sam # 25171
Sometimes things just work out right. Don't think you could ask for a better cast. Of the others I think only Lee Marvin could have pulled it off and made it click.
J-BAR #18287
I never get tired of watching The Wild Bunch. Truly a great movie. Pike Bishop was an interesting name...there was a controversial Bishop James Pike making headlines in the 60's and 70's. Kinda makes you wonder what Sam Peckinpah was thinking when he chose his characters names! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Pike

Oddnews SASS# 24779
Lee Marvin would have worked -- I have a hard time envisioning the others. Holden nailed it (and if you haven't seen "Paint Your Wagon," Marvin nailed IT). Some of the best western lines written are in Paint Your Wagon including, Q: IS, THEY, DEAD? A: THEY, BETTER BE, 'CAUSE I'M GONNA, BURY'EM!"
