(I wish that held true all the time but it is often. When you pan out your gold (which is 19 times heavier than water) the last thing you find in your pan is....black sand.....and hopefully gold. The black sand is mostly magnetic so you can pick it out with a strong magnet. I had always wanted to pan for gold, ever since panning at Knotts Berry Farm as a kid. So, when I retired I started goin up in the canyon and looking.
